Doña Antonia — Restaurant in Union City

It was a warm sunny morning walking down Bergenline and I knew I wanted a hearty comforting meal. We just stepped into this restaurant but was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. Mind you this is Cash only, we went to the bank and made our way back. Now anytime I want a traditional central american meal I come here. They make the tortillas from scratch and the fresh taste and smell that you get as you break one open... Fluffy inside and crispy exterior. The breakfast I chose was the decision tradicional con chorizo revuelto or traditional breakfast with chorizo but scrambled. It comes accompanied with refried beans, cream, sweet plantain and tortillas. I paid extra for the cheese slice and avocado. I don't usually stop there but I omitted the baleadas and pupusas this time. The food is well done and flavorful. The food is fresh and the price is affordable. I have been here about half a dozen times, and the quality of the food has gotten worse consistently. I initially ordered a chicken sandwich, which was surprisingly fresh and well prepared. Since then, every other sandwich I ordered came with one less ingredient. The last time I went, I received cold soggy pieces of bread, with barely any chicken, mashed together hurriedly. 1/4/25 - I used to love this place but the last 3 times that I went the food doesn't taste the same. I used to be a regular but all of the sudden the food is tasteless. The beans are watery and the grilled chicken is bland. They must've changed the chef or recipes. The staff seem miserable and annoyed.

2023 - The puposas are awesome! The black bean with cheese and chicken with cheese are my favorites. Alto de elote is a must try! All dishes are made to order. Super fresh and big portions. The waitstaff are nice...
