Terrible service. I occasionally went there for an afternoon breakfast on Sundays alone. I had a rough encounter with an old short Latina waitress WITHOUT glasses. She was rude to my menu questions. At the time, I brushed aside the rough encounter as a perhaps one bad day incident and moved on. Last Sunday, 01/20/19, I visited in the morning for a breakfast with my female friend. Unfortunately, we had to be served by the same waitress. This time, she made me alarmed by claiming aloud, "I don't understand what you said!" after hearing my omelette meal question. I didn't know how to respond to a waitress who insists on putting the blame of miscommunication on a customer! Eventually, she seemed to understand what I was saying, to my relief. But, every question I asked her, she said it could not be done. Things like, we are ordering French Toast separately and don't need this toast in in the meal and can the toast be replaced with something we would enjoy? NO! was her response. Could you replace the coffee or tea in the meal with something else? NO! was her response. We resigned to the fact that we would get charged for the food we wouldn't eat. When serving the food, she brought two dishes and, bringing forth one of them, she shouted "Number 7!". We ordered one mushroom omelette and a cheese omelette. We didn't remember which one was #7 and both of us momentarily felt silent trying to remember which of us ordered #7. She became irritated and shouted "NUMBER SEVEN" loud. That really embarrassed me among other people in the restaurant. I felt like I was begging for food from her. My female friend remembered which of the omelettes was #7 quicker and hushed her to give the dish to me. During the meal, my female friend acknowledged, obviously, she shared my embarrassment. The worst restaurant experience ever! I still gave a decent tip and the total bill including tip...
Read moreFour Star is the second diner I've revisited after a very long hiatus behind The Coach House. This used to be my go to place for great food at great prices any time of the day or night.
The food was always fresh and delicious and the staff was always helpful and friendly and they kept the place clean.
This was still true about 2yrs ago when I went for dinner very very early breakfast alone after taking my wife to work. The pancakes were fluffy, the potatoes fluffy yet crispy and seasoned perfectly, sausages perfect, overall a wonderful experience.
I'm sure they were hit hard with COVID these last 2yrs, but many other restaurants, both bigger and smaller, have been through the wringer as well and some have even become better than before. Four Star has just gone downhill and appeared to have not even attempted at recovering.
First off, I'm really not one of "those" people, but the staff were inconsistent with masks. Some were wearing, some weren't, some halfway; like I said, I'm not one of "those" people who cry about masks being on or being off for the sake of wearing them or not. As a food service professional and business owner, I just ask for uniformity.
Second, the place was pretty dirty. The table next to us was not cleaned until we were leaving and it had been dirty from before we sat. Now it only had an empty coffee mug and crumbs on the table, but it speaks volumes when there are at least 3 servers and 2 bussers all gathered together joking around mere feet from the table. Yes the diner had almost no customers, but I can guarantee if the staff aren't cleaning little things like that, there are bigger issues which I am getting...
Read moreHonestly, everyone in the area knows this diner isn't anything extraordinary and that's okay. I've never had a bad experience there until today. I walked in with my daughter for a Christmas dinner and the older woman who waited on us was extremely rude...she kept saying "what ever the menu says" whenever I asked her a question. She "didn't know " what kind of vegetables they had, grabbed our menus from our hands and walked away with half of our order. She returned to tell us They didn't have the appetizer we wanted (which was indeed on the menu as an option). I asked her what she could offer us instead and she raised her voice this time saying again, "I SAID WHATEVER THE MENU SAYS!" At this point I'd had enough and went up to the front counter to complain about her being so rude and the man just looked at me as if I was crazy. I cancelled my food and said I would be leaving...then a woman (maybe a manager)followed me back to the table and offered me a slice of cake as I grabbed my things, only after the waitress walked up to the counter and denied the entire situation even happened. I get it was unfortunate she had to work on christmas, but she didn't have to try and ruin ours....
