Sweets & Cafe Bakery — Restaurant in Union City

Already had two occasions where there were issues with this establishment which is a shame because I am a regular and have never had issues with this place. First issue was on doordash, order came wrong and over charged. Person I spoke to wanted me to wait an hour for another delivery attempt because they aren't allowed to refund and their prices are changing, but it is not reflecting on door dash. That is dishonest. As for the refund, I get it since wth doordash and other third party services you need to contact the service you used for a refund. I was able to get a refund through doordash but the way it was handled over the phone could have been better. Today I stopped in for a quick lunch with my daughter and paid for a grilled chicken sandwich ($4.95) and an empanada (2.45). The total came out to $10.49. This price was clearly wrong (sandwich rang up at 7.28 and the empanada at 2.55) and when I spoke to the employee she said the prices have increased but the new menus have not shown up. She said if I noticed something off I should have asked. I have a two year old running around so I didn't really pay mind but more so I have been a regular here and have not had reason to question them so I blindly trusted. She said she can't refund because the managers aren't here and I need to come back in the morning. I don't live nearby so after asking a couple times she called the manager and I got the refunded difference back. It's a shame that one as a customer is expected to check the menu prices to make sure it is correct. It's unfair and a poor business practice keeping the customer in the dark. There are better ways to remedy this issue while waiting...

Sis, cousin and myself were on hols in NY and stayed in Jersey City. First of all let me say this neighbourhood is so lovely and quiet it's amazing. Only 15-20 min commute to NYC via bus 123.

But more to the point - discovered Sweets and Café only on our last day. Very sadly coz the food is sooo good, the team so lovely and kind and smiling. The coffee and decaf are delicious. The atmosphere is lovely. The sun shines through the glass and it's a perfect place for eating locally.

We had croissant with egg/cheese and a sandwich with the veg omelette. Super tasty and filling.

As a dessert we had a cream pastry 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 I wish my stomach had a bigger capacity.

This is a gem of a place! The traditional cafe con leche is the best I have had in the area. Their pastries are fresh & delicious. The place is meticulously clean & the display cases are well stocked & well kept. You have many options like this in the area but this place has gone above & beyond to not only offer great food & coffee but also offer a great lounge atmosphere inside the place.
