Dewey's Pizza - U-City — Restaurant in University City

Located in a quieter section of U-city and easy to find. An adjacent lot has been established for parking. Over all a decent spot. Food wise. Fresh made to order items and if you are inclined you may watch the kitchen staff prepare orders. My group had the following: Large house salad, large peppercorn ranch salad, 17in Hawaiian, 17 in 1/2 Dr. Dre, and 1/2 blue Ribbon (Seasonal). Enough for 4 adults and 2 kids. The house salad has a subtle sweetness and does not over power. The peppercorn ranch salad is light with the flavors subtle. The Hawaiian (to me) is always a risky venture as balancing the pineapple with other ingredients a delicate job. Well, this was done excellent! The Dr. Dre is a BLT with jalapeno on a pizza. The flavors are well balanced with a hint of hotness...perfect! Finally the Blue Ribbon. A white sauce based special, that comes across as mild and flavorful at the sametime. Food wise I found no faults. Service experience was great. No one ran out of drinks. If they did it was for a moment.

The only (minor)negative remark I have is that the seating is intimate. So if you are a lot of food. There is not a whole lot room...

My favorite pizza place over the years. But this trip was terrible. The promised wait for 6 was 15 to 20 minutes. We waited 55 minutes. That was sort of OK for a Saturday. But we ordered four pizzas and asked that they remove the mushrooms from one my son and I would share. Me and my son are highly allergic to them. The pizza came out and it had mushrooms. They apologized and started another pizza. We noticed another table getting the same pizza and our waiter looking at it nervously. He went to the back and then came out and said our pizza was almost ready. Finally it came out taking twice as long as the other pizzas other family members had ordered. No mushrooms were seen, but within a few minutes I was sick and had to rush to the restroom. It was obvious that mushrooms had been included again, but picked off. That does not work. Once cooked with the other vegetables, the dangers of the mushrooms for us are the same. My son called after he got home and was suffereing like me. They took the pizza off the bill, but I would rather have paid for it and not had the incompetence and the deception. Not sure I...

Invisible Man at Dewey's-I was in town for the weekend and had great things about Dewey's. "It's the best pizza around" one person said. I couldn't order online because they had too many orders, so I stopped by. The place was only 10% full. I was the first person in line, but the lady behind me was waited on first, twice until I spoke up the second time. Upon pickup, the same lady who didn't see me when I ordered went to check on my pizza. After checking, she walked past me without acknowledgment and proceeded to visit tables. I tracked her down to check on the status....

As you can see, I put way too much effort into trying to make my experience half way decent. The lady who took my order(bartender maybe) was nice and I tipped despite the subpar service overall. If not for her, this is a one star review.
