The food here really is worth noting. The Caesar salad and pizza tots were incredible, especially if eaten together. The wings were good quality meat The pizza itself had good flavor, but the edges were more burnt than I prefer, even for this style.
But service matters more to me than anything else, and that’s where this place lost me.
The person running the counter came across as sarcastic and dismissive. For example: while waiting for my order, I went in to add something I’d forgotten. After ordering, I asked how much longer my original food might take. Instead of just checking, he slowly turned, walked back to the tickets, and said, “What time did you order it?” Then, pulling the ticket, he added, “Ten minutes ago… so 30 minutes total, it’s been 10, so 20 more.” The tone and delivery was - what are you an idiot?
I also watched the same kind of interaction with another customer in front of me—an older gentleman who asked about getting ricotta on half his pizza. He was told that he could only do the whole pizza or none of it with ricotta. And then added he could buy 2oz of it on the side. The gentleman asked how much 2oz was and rather than just show him the small container, the guy moved slowly, grabbed a small container, and said with a sarcastic tone, “Two ounces is two ounces.” It felt rude. Strike that, it was rude.
My husband and I even tried to give him the benefit of the doubt while we chatted about these interactions, maybe he had to cover for someone, maybe he’d gotten bad news, maybe he’s just burned out after years of running this place. But after reading other reviews, it seems this isn’t an isolated experience. Plus you can still just not be mean to every person who doesn't know things you feel they should.
Food? Worth the price but not going to invest in a person that treats others so poorly. Not for me. At the end of the day, when someone makes their customers feel like they’re a nuisance, it’s time to move on. I did really...
Read moreThis place is great. This isn't a knock but the only seating is outside. They have a bit of counter spots inside but it's super tight. Plan accordingly if it's cold. If it's on the warm side, nice to eat pizza outside in Vail. FAR MORE IMPORTANT is the food. This is detroit style pizza (not sicilian). They don't have NY style. Just detroit. We love detroit pizza and have had it at some really good spots. This stands up. The crunch is great, the sauce is great. We got half plain half pepperoni and all four us were disappointed there wasn't more when we finished. We had an ordering fail. That's on us. In fact we are strategizing our ordering right now for dinner so we don't feel like we missed on ordering. It's just so freaking good. We ordered brussel sprouts which seems like a really odd thing for a pizza place. These are easily top 3 brussel sprout dishes I have ever had. They cook them really well, so they aren't like eating a baseball and the flavor is just elite. Hot honey and parmesan. They are simply perfectly done. They have wings which sound great (we don't eat wings). We have eaten at Blue Moose for years. This is a totally different speed and for us, better. can't recommend...
Read moreHey guys your pizza is incredible, true authentic crispy crust Detroit style with a sweet and delicious signature red sauce that is 1000% worth coming back for. Unfortunately had a really terrible encounter picking up my food that I feel compelled to share. We ordered for pick up under the name “Jake” arrived at the restaurant to pick up our pizza and the cashier (middle aged dude with blonde hair) told us “I don’t have an order for Jake” and as we tried to tell him what we ordered he walked away and ignored us for a few minutes. We waited for him to finish another order and he again says “hey man I just take the orders and I don’t have one for Jake” in an extremely rude and antagonistic tone. He finally lets us explain to him what our order was and he goes this “this is for Gabe” obviously a similar sounding name.. we explain it’s our order and he rudely and almost begrudgingly accepts it at which point we pay and he goes “ok he’s the order for Gabe” … super strange and unfriendly encounter that should be confronted. Not good...
