This was an.. uncomfortable experience? I walked in and stood at the counter. Nobody was standing right there but I could see two men in the back cooking. I locked eyes with one, smiled and nodded, and he looked right back at what he was doing. So I just waited for a little bit maybe 5 minutes until the 2nd man looked out and locked eyes with me and I did the same as I did the first. Similar response, just looking away. I was really hungry and went a little bit out of my way on the bus to stop here because their falafel wrap sounds beyond amazing and authentic and I was really eager to eat their food! I don't know if I'll return to try again just because I felt like standing there for 10 minutes without being acknowledged was kind of.. I don't know personal or something? I work in the restaurant industry so I'm really patient and understanding about the potential of them being really busy or something but the non acknowledgment was confusing and there was only one other person in the restaurant waiting for food. And being in the industry I also know that even if you can't get to a customer right away you typically make a point to at least welcome them in or tell them you'll be right with them. So yeah I don't know it just kind of felt like it was about me? Maybe that's not legit but it's either that or just general poor customer service. But the ratings for this place are amazing and are coming from people who actually experienced the food and we're interacted with by the staff so hopefully my experience was a one-off and maybe I'll go in sometime again with a friend...
Read moreAn experience as welcoming as it is authentic! We stopped in to Falahi Bro's on a whim and it didn't take long to realize what a good decision we made. The chicken gyro was noticably fresh with a sauce that paired easily and wasn't overpowering. The lamb shawarma had a satisfyingly rich flavor to it with bold spices that kept every one of our taste buds excited for the next bite. My own favorite menu item however, was the fries. While seasoned maybe a bit aggressively for some, they were absolutely enjoyable for me, sprinkled with a nice sharp parmesan cheese. (Pro tip: get the spicy garlic sauce for some majorly delicious dipping)
A piping hot traditional Turkish coffee and some coconut water were the second best pairing to our meal, after an amazing conversation with Muj, an owner. He described with inspiring passion the importance of taking pride in the food they make. Using fresh ingredients and taking the time to create the kind of food they can be proud to associate with their namesake. (Falahi, in Arabic, means Farmer. A subtle nod to the hard work exhibited by this establishment)
Do yourself a favor and don't make the mistake of passing by this incredible jewel of a dining experience. Since I can't give them more than five stars, I'll be happy to come back in and give them five more hopefully...
Read moreI recently moved down here and have mainly been trying out places in Portland, but Falahi Bro's is now a favorite that I'll go to regularly.
We ordered the mezza plate with hummus, baba ghanouge, falafel, and taboule; lamb shawerma plate, and falahi fries with spicy garlic sauce. Then we got 1 pistachio and 1 walnut baklava to take home. Everything we ate was delicious.
In fact, I usually don't order falafel since my past experiences it's been very dry and I just thought that's what falafel was but having it here has converted me. It was moist and flavorful - I will definitely order falafel from here again.
I have also never been a fan of baklava, but I always like to give things a try even when I haven't liked it in the past. I am so happy I did, I wasn't expecting to like it and I felt my eyes widen with shock after the initial bite of the pistachio one because it was so damn good.
They were generous with the sauce on the falahi fries which made my heart happy. I like that the spicy garlic sauce actually had a kick to it.
There wasn't a thing I...
