I love this place! It's vegan and has gluten-free options. There is plenty for those not limited to eat as well. My other half only has a shrimp allergy, so there are no issues here.
They have banana bread, gluten-free pancakes, and imitation "Just egg" in their burritos. If, like myself, avoiding gluten is not by choice, you can have a burrito bowl. They are delicious too. Everyone I have brought here loves their fake sausage (jackfruit) and steak. The steak has such a good imitation of meat strands that it fooled two meat eaters in my family.
They have great sauces on their dishes, and you can't tell it is fake egg (thanks late life allergies).
The pancake is best eaten fresh and hot. It is delicious, with the great moist, springiness that a pancake should have.
There are also matcha tea drinks, hot chocolate and half-and-half...a half drip coffee and half hot chocolate. It usually comes with roasted mini marshmallows, and if you can have the gluten, Graham cracker crumble.
Tip: Subbing ingredients here gets expensive fast. Just order things as is and try something different each time.
Street parking is free, and there is a very small set of parking spaces beside the taproom they are beside. The taproom doesn't open until 11am, but you can take you Scratch food inside. They have great options for tap cider and beer, as well as a bottle shop.
There is an outdoor patio to sit at. There are a couple of propane heat sources, but it has been really hit or miss on if they are operating on cold and...
ย ย ย Read moreThis food cart is parked in the alley beside Tap Union, and as of this review you can take your food into the pub to eat after 11 am (I had trouble finding this info myself so I'm hoping this will help someone). I've been here twice now more than a year apart, and both times I thoroughly enjoyed it. The menu was different each time as it seems they change seasonally, but my husband and I were both really happy with our food. This is great, hearty vegan fare. I sometimes get tired of the way vegan options try to appeal to a "healthy" sensibility, but Scratch is just good old breakfast food and sometimes that's what you need. On the most recent visit I had the breakfast sandwich on a pretzel bun, and it had "sausage," "egg," hashbrown, and "cheese sauce." It was all extremely tasty, and I'm a vegetarian who usually eats real eggs/dairy. My toddler ate up her hash brown happily, and my husband was pleased with his bacon/egg/cheese sandwich. We ate on the patio as we were too early to go inside, and there was decent seating and a canopy area. The price point means we're not exactly going to be making this a weekly event, but any time I want a special treat for breakfast or brunch this will be...
ย ย ย Read moreIโm giving this 2 stars because I really want to encourage more good vegan food. However, I canโt recommend this one. The food is very overpriced for what you get. I paid $5 for an iced down small drink and $15 for a sandwich that Id never get off the menu again. Overall, $85 for hash and three sandwiches which was eaten in 10 minutes is too much. The kicker for us was that before we ordered they said it would be 25-30 minutes. That was ok, I appreciated the heads up. Reality was it was actually 65 min before we got our food.
Knowing people are sitting on the union tap side of the truck but yelling into the trash cans on the opposite side where no one is standing doesnโt make sense. Itโs hard to hear names called.
The people were friendly and nice but the food isnโt worth the price nor the wait. Might be a better option if youโre drinking at union tap and want healthier food than they have inside, but thatโs it. Sorry guys. Lower the prices or up the quality and we may try again...
