As long as you're not in a hurry, not terribly hungry, don't mind paying too much for pretty much everything, and you're easily impressed/entertained, this place is just adorable. However... Menu: If you're actually HUNGRY, this might not be the place for you. Because once you get past all the precious, cutesy bull$#!t, you'll quickly realize (especially when your food arrives) that you're paying ENTIRLEY TOO MUCH for what you're getting. To be fair; the food that you get IS inarguably pretty tasty. It's just that there isn't very MUCH of it. Because of the physical nature of the work that I do, I wound up having to order TWO breakfasts just to keep from making my morning appetite angry. The food that I got definitely was QUITE TASTY, but the portions seemed awfully small. But then, I don't work in an office. Office/desk workers might very well find the portions to be perfectly adeqate. Beverage selection: If you don't drink coffee or tea, you're pretty much drinking water here. And the price of a cup of tea... Yikes! In a place like this, a cup of tea should almost be complimentary with the purchase of a breakfast item. Seriously... It's just tea, people. Service: What service? This is almost an indoor food cart. Once they bring you your order, you will not see them at your table again. And--during my visit-- the staff was polite and efficient, but they needed to work on their "soft skills" in dealing with the public. This might very well have been a singular event, though. Other reviews speak of a very different, much more friendly interactive experience. The Food Itself: Interesting combinations lead to very pleasant flavor combinations presented in an appealing manner. So full points for that! The thing... The THING is... Once you realize what they've put together, you'll realize VERY quickly that, if you have a small waffle maker (which I do), they're not doing ANYTHING that you couldn't do, yourself, at home, for considerably less expense... Or more satisfying quantities. HOWEVER!!!!... Bear in mind the location (downtown, in the belly of an office building) of this place. I reckon it is a very nice little place to grab a nice, tasty little breakfast when you work nearby and don't have the time & energy to make your own breakfast. OR... It is also a very nice little place to meet a friend/bring a date for a friendly/cozy little meal. As long as you're not in a hurry, this place is really quite pleasant. The atmosphere is just fine. Zero complaints there. Delicious food! No worries about flavor and quality. Just not much in terms of portions. Pretty expensive for what you get. But if I wanted to being someone out to someplace fairly nice/charming/cute for a "breakfast date", this place would be very close to the top...
Read moreI had passed by this place last time I was in Vancouver and was very excited to come back to town and get to try it! It’s a cozy and warm atmosphere with limited seating and has been full of people each time I’ve passed by. There are plants growing in the windows by the bar top which made the place feel especially homey to me.
Service: 5/5 The people were incredibly friendly and helped me make my decision on what to get! I wouldn’t have seen the seasonal option if they hadn’t recommended it and I was happy they did. Everyone was very happy and friendly.
Food: 4.6/5 I got the Van Clucky, which is a seasonal chicken and waffle sandwich with sriracha mayo, pickles, havarti, and bacon. It was delicious! It didn’t change my life, but I really enjoyed the flavor combination. I personally liked that it was sandwiched because I took the top waffle off and ate it with syrup as a little dessert after I’d finished the rest of it. I personally found that everything on the sandwich was better than the waffles themselves, but the flavors together worked very well. I would love to try some other savory options next time I come by. I did order a drip coffee as well, which I almost forgot about as it was nothing to write home about (standard for diner style drip).
Price-to-quality ratio: 5/5 Really, really good pricing. The sandwich I ordered was only $12 which felt like a steal for chicken and waffles; seemed like something I would have been charged $16 for somewhere else.
I had a great time and would highly recommend this for a breakfast next time you’re...
Read moreCute place with tasty waffles and coffee. The staff was friendly and the service was pretty quick.
I love that there are savory options and sweet options. The Parks & Rec references definitely make me want to bingewatch the entire show again.
Due to sleepy lazy Sunday reasons we did not have breakfast this morning and came here during lunchtime. We ended up getting two savory waffles and one sweet waffle. They were all really good. The Swanson did come a little smaller than expected, but it was great taste wise. The Audrey was savory and delicious, the goat cheese was perfect and not too goat-y. Unfortunately the Leslie Knope was out of season, so we got the JG2 instead. The lemon and blueberries made it taste very fresh and 'healthy' (as far as waffles can be healthy), I personally also appreciated that the whipped cream on this waffle was not overly sweet. Despite getting 1.5 waffle each we did not feel like our stomachs were about to explode, which we did actually expect, but that's on us for skipping breakfast.
Would definitely recommend going here! Great waffles and nice alternatives for people that are not too much in to...
