One of the newest bars in downtown Vancouver, Coral Club is an excellent take on an Hawaiian Tiki bar. The ambiance of the bar is dark and moody, with very interesting colors and pockets of brightness.

The drink selections have some very interesting flavor profiles, which works in todays modern craft cocktail world. I tried the Dark Star, which is described as spicy and juicy. A mix of mezcal, rum, passionfruit, orgeat, citrus, black pepper dem. The complexity of the drink definitely makes you want to try what else they have on the menu. They have sharing cocktails, along with non-tiki drinks. They have a full bar, so you can probably order something not on the menu, but you'll want to try the menu. Everything looks great.

The food menu has their take on various traditional Hawaiian foods. I tried the Kalua pork, which comes with forbidden rice (black rice), and macaroni salad. When you look at it, you think the portion size might be small, but it is the perfect amount of food. Good flavor on everything, other options on the menu like lumpia, their pork belly, and Kare Kare (beef short ribs), great items to try.

The place isn't small, but this setup of place, they want everyone to have a spot. This normal for a speakeasy style of bar. Depending on when you might want to visit, a reservation is recommended. I went in on a Friday evening close to 9pm, where I sat at the bar. Bartenders are excellent and very friendly. They can answer and recommend any drink that fits what you like.

This being a tiki bar, with craft cocktails, your drinks aren't on the lower price point, but the quality of drinks and flare that they are presented, you can understand what you are paying for.

This is a great addition to the downtown Vancouver area and somewhere everyone...

This place is great … but ONLY if you get the right staff .. SO BEWARE

The Coral Club blew my mind on my first visit … BUT when we came back to show family a few weeks later we were shocked and disappointed by how disrespectful, dismissive, and frankly petty the staff was - it really makes a difference!!

My twin and I first stumbled on this place in January, and we’re completely blown away by the atmosphere, flashy drinks, and incredible service. We had a male waiter who was incredibly attentive and offered great suggestions.

BUT when we tried to take our mom there last night (Feb 19) we were immediately greeted by a young hostess in a ponytail shouting, “NO, WE’RE DONE!” at us as soon we opened the door. The hours online state the establishment is open until 12am and we arrived at 10:57 (more than an hour before closing). When I politely asked her what the hours were because of the discrepancy online, she rolled her eyes and told us, “yeah we close at midnight but we stop seating at 11”

… Now, I’ve worked in hospitality before so I understand that might have been case, HOWEVER, IT WAS NOT YET 11p! When I turned my phone around to show her it was only 10:58(since we lost a minute with her being difficult) she AGAIN spat out at my family, “Well on my iPad it says 11 so I’m not seating you!” And as I watched this girl lie to my face and go ABOVE AND BEYOND to not be helpful (probably just out sheer laziness) It was not only an embarrassment but also a disappointment for a place we had enjoyed so much and we’re tying to show off. Even though it was still not 11, we left and headed up the road to Wahi Hana where they were happy to seat and serve us.

Save your time and go there instead —Frankly flashily drinks aren’t worth the...

It is extremely rare that I give any place that serves liquor, food, and provides service a complete, wholehearted 5 stars. I generally cross the river into Portland to get myself a great cocktail. It is just home to a few of my favorite mixologists. And Vancouver seems to be not quite up to par with their big sister across the river. I happened into Coral one evening on the advice of a friend, and I had a great time, with some great drinks. Since then, I've returned for their drinks, but also ordered food. I'm not a tiki bar connesuier, and generally am not attracted to them. Because of Coral, I have completely changed my mind. Call it a sort of euphemism. Maybe it is just the staff, kitchen, and great management this place has. I ordered from their great cocktail menu, which has some amazing tiki bar and house concoctions. Then I started to see how good they were at traditional cocktails. They have nailed everything I've ordered. And their food..........F$&@, I also got caught off guard. I have high expectations, even where I shouldn't. But no matter how high my expectations could have been, Coral would have met them, and has.

I know this is a long-winded review. Sorry for that, but I want to fully express, to those who don't know, that there is a really great restaurant/tiki bar in Vancouver that will give you all the quality you go to Portland for. Well-managed, friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean, quality, mouth-watering food, and some very very good drinks, either on the...

Coral Club is a great example of a what a tiki bar should be. The food is good. The decor is perfect and they take pride in the cocktails they serve. In fact, I've had a few respected mixologists recommend Coral Club to me. I started with a Mai Thai since that is the iconic tiki drink. I was taken aback when it came in sort of rocks glass with crushed ice. I rarely order them, but they usually come in a tall glass with cubes. I don't care for crushed ice. But then I remembered back in the day being served a Mai Thai served this way at the famous tiki bar, Trader Vic's in The Beverly Hilton. I appreciated the history, so I rolled with it...but it wasn't my jam. For a follow up I had the Smith & Scotch but on a king cube in a rocks glass. That was a fantastic drink for my palate. They have an impressive rum list. Next time I might just explore sipping some rums neat. We started with the chips and salsa, which is pineapple-shishito based. It was decent...but too mild for me. I ordered the Kalua pig sliders. My daughter enjoyed the Spam musubi. Street parking only. Check out my profile for more great eateries and craft cocktail bars. ✌🏼
