I am a nerd/geek, so Battle & Brew is exactly up my alley!
From the myriad of memorabilia and gaming options, both video and old-fashion tabletop, this place is overwhelming in the absolute best of ways. I felt so at home and, in many ways, really jealous of all the decor. For the sake of the Doctor! You enter the Tardis to go to the bathrooms; Allons-y!
Okay, okay; let's get back on track! In addition to the video and board games; Battle & Brew holds all kinds of fun events to make each of your visits unique. For example, when I went the other day, they were holding a House of the Dragon/Game of Thrones trivia night (*which, if you'll indulge a little bragging, I did really well at and made my night even more satisfying).
Then there's the food. First off, the names of the dishes are very punny, so even before getting my food, I was already delighted. Then the food itself; so delicious! For example, the first time I went; I got myself a Philly with potato fries and it came with this churro dip that made the meal even more jam-packed with flavor!
And last, but certainly not least; the service was top-tier. The bartenders and waiters/waitresses are so incredibly polite, helpful, and nerdy themselves, which made them so marvelous to chat with in between taking orders. I have to especially highlight Amber; whatever she's getting paid, her manager needs to pay her even more. She was so kind and attentive; thanks in big part to her, I left my first visit as a very satisfied customer.
So if you're a lover of sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming who wants some good drinks & delicious food, you HAVE to come to...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible experience. I’ve never felt so scammed.
My husband, son, and I stopped in and asked the host how it worked. He simply said, “You eat and play the games,” with no mention of any additional charges. He seated us at a table with two gaming screens.
We ordered chicken tenders, a beer, and a burger with water. The food was subpar—especially the tenders, which were clearly cooked in old, burnt oil.
When the check came, it was $85. We were told there’s a $40/hour charge just to play the games at that table. We were never informed of this upfront. Only after expressing frustration did the server mention other tables: one that’s $20/hour and a central one that’s free.
The manager came over with the host, who admitted fault and said, “That’s on me. I’ll Cash App you the money or let you play for free next time.” That’s not how business should be handled—basic transparency is not optional.
Even as we were leaving, I saw another couple being seated in the same way—no mention of the extra charges. I warned them, and they were just as shocked.
This place relies on deception and lack of communication to squeeze money out of people. I don’t recommend it to anyone. Total lack...
Read moreWorst experience at the Battery. This was our first time at Battle and Brew. I purchased a Groupon as a gift to my boyfriend who loves to game. We arrived and as soon as the words Groupon left my lips we were told it would be a 1 hour and 45 minute wait. The place was fairly empty so I was confused. I asked what the wait would be without the Groupon and was told the same time. The host asked if we had a reservation and I said no the only reservation options I could find on the website were for dining only. Then we were told we could get seated right away just in the dining area. We decided to just eat since it was cold and rainy outside. We sat next to a four top that was set up with four dual player stations. Those stations remained empty for the entire hour while we waited for our food and ate. There were many people around us that were being told the same and also noticed the many empty game stations around the establishment. I counted at least 12 empty stations that probably could have accommodated all the families in the dining area. I will not be returning. I recommend Punch Bowl over this business if you actually want to have a...
