Abbey Road Pub and Restaurant is located at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront at the corner of Atlantic Ave. and 22nd St. During peak times, parking can be limited, but the parking they do have is at the back of the place. There is an entrance from the back as well. My mom and I ended up coming here as I had received a gift certificate for here during 2019 Virginia Beach Restaurant Week, which had occurred in February. My visit here was on December 22, 2019.
When parking in the back of the place, there is a mural along the building next to where you can enter from the back. We came in around 4:30 pm, so it wasn't that busy at that time. We went up to the main entrance area to get seated. We got seated near the fish tank that they have. The fish seem to have a calming effect.
Within a minute or two of being seated, our server Amy came to the table to introduce herself and ask us for our drink orders. For this visit, I ended up going with a sweet tea. After that, we continued to look over the menu. A few moments later, she came back and we were ready to order. We both went with the Crab Cakes Gordon (broiled), which comes with one side. I went with fries as my side while my mom went with a loaded baked potato as her side. About 10 minutes or so after ordering, our order came to the table.
After looking at the food, it looked really good. However, the crab cakes were cold. Once our server came back over and we notified her of this. She immediately took them and brought it back to the kitchen. A few minutes later, new crab cakes came out and they were much better. They were nice and hot this time. She came back to check again, which was great. Other than that issue with the crab cakes to begin with, the food was great. You can tell that the crab cakes are crab meat and very little, if any, fillers in them as well. They were definitely fall apart good. The fries were hot and good for me, and my mom really liked the loaded baked potato too.
Overall, this was a very good first experience here. Even though there was that issue with the crab cakes, it was handled professionally and quickly. With the overall good food and service, I would definitely come back again, though I do avoid the oceanfront during the summer as a local, since it can be very busy in that area that time of year. If you are at the oceanfront and looking for a place to eat, this is a place worth...
Read moreThis place has gone downhill so much in the last 20 years. When I lived at the oceanfront, friends and I would come here every week for a meal and more often to watch whoever was playing live.
I go far less frequently now but the last 3 times I've been here it's just gotten progressively worse. The last time was the final straw, we won't be going back.
We went there for lunch and they weren't even busy. No line, several tables open. We sat down and it was at least 15 minutes before we even saw out server. Another more than 10 minutes to get the drinks, and we only got them because I went to the bar and asked the bartender to get them for me. Server showed up 15 minutes later with our drinks and to take our order.
So now we've been here 40 minutes before we've even had a chance to order. We stayed since we didn't have to time to pack up the toddler and find another restaurant. Another 20 minutes go by and I haven't even seen our server anywhere around. I flag down another server and ask her if she can bring our food out. It comes right out and of course it's all cold. No point in complaining since we already decided we weren't coming back.
As we're eating our server appears and just sort of glances at our table and walks swiftly by without acknowledging us it asking how everything is - I assume because he already knew.
When we were finishing up eating I then once again had to flag down the other server to ask for the check.
Their food is also greatly overpriced for the what is but that's really the least of my concern. Also, their "hash browns" are just like unseasoned cut up deep fried French fries.
Overall I'd recommend you avoid this restaurant. They used to be great but seems like they've adopted more of a "we don't have to try because we're at a touristy location", which I've found a lot of restaurants tend towards when they've been around awhile. They seem to forget they need steady local business to be able to stay...
Read moreAfter giving blood in VA beach, I explored restaurants in the area with gluten free options. This place had a ton of options and great reviews so my group of 3 decided to try it out. Even though it was not busy. We waited about 20 minutes for a table. We realized probably due to short staffing. Once seated our waitress took our orders. 2 grilled chicken sandwiches, an abbey burger and some drinks. About 15 min in, the waitress said our food was coming out soon. Not a minute later another waitress brought our food. Fries were all cold. Chicken sandwiches were room temp and rubbery and the burger was not edible. It tasted as though the grill hadn't been cleaned in months as the char marks ruined the taste of the meat. We waited while our waitress finished up orders on a table of 15. She came over and we started to explain and we were cut off with "I'll just credit your food and you can pay for your drinks". Wow! I didn't come for free food. Two of us had just given blood and needed to eat. We informed her of this and her demeanor changed. At that point we were done. Just bring us our check. The hostess cashed us out and I asked her if it was normal to not offer to remake food when it's not edible. She says "no but we are very short staffed". I understand the state of affairs our area is in, but if you cannot serve and keep up with edible food, maybe you should decline large parties (there were 3 tables of more than 10 people during our visit) or close for the day. It's nearly impossible to ruin a chicken breast and a frozen hamburger. While the gluten free options are amazing and the staff seemed friendly this food was an...
