Pier 23 Restaurant — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Our family ate here today while on vacation. First the waiter was not knowledgeable of the menu and then our food took awhile and came out separately with a decent amount of time in between. When I got my meal I was charged the $20 for the crab cake combo which said I was supposed to get fries and hush puppies and didn’t get the hush puppies but due to them then having a power outage (no fault of there own I totally understand) I was distracted. The place filled with some smoke due to no power and the exhaust fan not working then we were told we couldn’t leave until power came back on which they had no idea when it would return. We told our waiter we had a parking meter and couldn’t stay long. The waiter just said there is nothing we can do….we had two young kids with us who were already ready to leave plus it was hot and Smokey in the place. My father in law asked for the manager and all of a sudden we were told we could pay in cash so my in laws left to find an atm. They had a hard time getting the bill together- and even added gratuity into the bill after all this. We were stuck sitting in this hot place with the smoke smell with two tired kids. Then when we got the cash the waiter said she can’t do change…what!? The register couldn’t be opened and no discount was offered again and we only needed $6 change!? The manager who never came to talk to us or anything magically got the register opened after some back and forth. The whole experience was just off. I don’t write a lot of reviews but this was ridiculous. We were the only ones who had to sit and wait. My Family and I came here just recently to try it out after passing by it a bit, when we entered, the atmosphere of the place felt well, it looked quite nice inside. My family and I then decided to order 3 orders of Philly Steak and cheese (16.99 each) to try them out and we got a cheeseburger go the youngest (12.99) along with 3 Pepsi products (2.99) and 1 water . After waiting what felt like an eternity even after being told countless times that our food would arrive shortly if still felt like forever, then when we did get our food it felt and looked like the sloppiest versions of cheesesteaks I’ve ever seen, then the burger looked off and the youngest didn’t like it. The waiter we had was all over the place even when there were only 4 other families outside and 2 inside including us, this also includes have a full staff team. Even when we asked the waiter questions they would disappear and/or not have a clue of what we were saying. Then after we finished the total came to 91 dollars. Now at that moment My family and I found it off that something that would cost to a total 73 dollars, and with a 6% tax it would lead to a total of 77 dollars. Well after we left, we still felt weird paying that ridiculous amount, when we came back to talk to the waiter she said that the tax was 14 dollars which felt outrageous amount, well after we did some research, and found the tax is 6% of your total. I didn’t want to argue over 14 dollars but it’s outrageous that a restaurant would charge people like that and the possibility that people have had the same issue happen to them without them knowing is possible. My friend and I made a trip to VA beach last weekend. We really wanted to enjoy the day at the beach and later enjoy a really nice seafood dinner. We stopped at Pier 23 Restaurant hoping to have that experience but unfortunately it was the opposite of what we had expected. Everything was alright until we got our food. My friend did not get what she had ordered and when we addressed it to our server, her response was "I'm sorry, I must've pressed the wrong button." She then offered to take it back but said it would take a long time because a big party had just stepped in. This was unacceptable considering we had gotten there first AND she had messed up her order so it would only make sense for her, as a server, to make it possible for us to be taken care of first. We let it go and kept the meal because by that time we were really hungry and we're usually not the ones to complain.( Also, the food was not what we had expected. It was something we could've made at home, not worth what we had paid for) We finally got up to pay and noticed she was getting charged for two sides. The server had come to her and said it was with the meal, she NEVER mentioned about an extra charge. We later had an opportunity to speak with the manager, but she did nothing to fix the problem and never apologized for the inconvenience. We were very dissatisfied with this place.
