I have my annual birthday dinner at Isle of Capri for years now, because it is a fine restaurant we do not invite children and make this an adult dinner (we have dinner with grandchildren separately just to respect Isle of Capri). I had my dinner recently on Thursday night and from the start were treated as if we were an annoyance. Half of the crowd arrived early for a drink at the bar, at 7pm we were all there and the waitress came to tell us our table is ready, we said we were wrapping up our bar bill and a few of us were just greeting each other. 5 mins or so later the waitress came again more determined to tell us if we didn't seat now the kitchen would not be able to cook our orders on time. We felt rushed, scolded and interrupted, a few still had to pay their bar tab, the bartender was great. At dinner the waitress seemed frustrated with us, nobody understood why, the restaurant was not full, the wall booths around us remained empty, there were other large parties there but it wasn't a full house so we didn't understand the rush. We ordered bottles of wine and martinis, then she asked if we were on the same tab and we said no, of course it was split parties and not complicated, three couples and a single, the waitress was obviously perturbed at this and said they don't allow separate tabs. We were shocked but polite and said splitting tabs is the norm, and she said she would make an attempt this one time. My spouse and I ordered a caesar salad to share, the waitress said she required a minimum of two salad orders to serve them, my friend who had the single bill was being nice and said I'll have one too. My other friend said the website said on Thursdays that caesar salads were buy one get one free. We asked the waitress several times if we could get the deal, she blatantly ignored us. I finally said can we get the deal? She said not with separate tabs, I said what does it matter, we ordered two salads, she stood her ground. I finally said put my friends meal on our tab, the night was becoming complicated bc of this waitress but we all chose to enjoy the night's celebration and not dwell on the waitresses attitude. After the meal my friends ordered a slice of cake to me for my birthday (it was my birthday that night, not just celebrating). The dinner felt rushed all night, we had to ask for olives, we were never offered freshly grated parmesan, I can't remember if they serve bread there with dinner but we never received any if so. My husband's bill was over $450, the caesar salad was $25 and I'm not even sure if that's the price for it, the birthday cake that neither of us ordered was also on our bill. We don't usually fret over bills, and so we took the itemized bill home and he said he wanted to keep it to discuss later. Three of us at the dinner are local business owners, one has a business at the Vibe district, and we all felt like we were treated as if we just weren't worthy there. We were all dressed up, we didn't complain, and didn't understand why the waitress was so irritated with our company. At this, my husband has asked me to please not have my annual birthday dinner there anymore. I have been hurt by this since that dinner, I use to love isle of capri, we drop a lot of money there and use to think it was worth it. The service staff other than the bar seems to have depreciated the last few years. One time the foreign waiter there would not box up my leftovers although I asked him to three times, like the caesar special treatment he continued to ignore my request while taking my very full plate away, and we left that time with most of my meal disappeared. I can't stress enough to please hold a staff meeting and train the staff to appreciate their customers, to honor the specials, that splitting tabs is the norm, and boxed meals are appreciated for lunch the next day. We travel and eat at the finest places and haven't heard such rules as we were told that night. I hope the service improves, especially to your local patrons who make this city great. Sincerely hurt and...
Read moreOh my gosh! This place is absolutely incredible!!!! My wife and I drove to VA Beach for her birthday week. We decided to check this place out for her birthday dinner and boy did we choose the right spot! We stayed in a hotel a few blocks over and left a message for reservation on their voicemail earlier in the day. They called back an hour or two before they opened and confirmed the reservation. I asked for an ocean front table for 7pm. They were booked up for 7, so I was okay with a table without an ocean front view. When we got there we were seated promptly, AT AN OCEAN FRONT table, and got the BEST waiter we've ever had, anywhere, ever. Hands down. He recommended some choice appetizers and entree options, with which we obliged with zero regret. They were incredible. The waiters name is Michael, and is also there bartender. He is, (and I have never left a review like this) the best waiter on the planet. Although it was my wife's birthday, she wasn't feeling all that great (from the night before). She didn't know what to order to drink that would make her feel better, so Michael asked if he could take the liberty in making her a drink. He brought it, and it was insanely great. Perfect. The food was exceptional. Great sizes, perfect flavor. I just don't have anything negative to say about this place. I mentioned to him in private that she loves tiramisu and if they had a candle. He said, "absolutely! I got you!" He boxed our leftovers for us in the back and stapled it neatly shut before placing two desert forks in front of us. A minute later, they brought tiramisu with a perfect candle, sang to her, and had this gentle sweet old Italian man sing to her it Italian. Do not think twice about going here if your in town. Ask for Michael. You...
Read more3 stars for amazing view and comfortable booth, Sinatra songs playing first half of dinner. Otherwise the food was terrible. We expected so much more. We are lovers of good Italian food and all of us love to cook. 2 members of our party are Italian. The clams casino was covered in cold uncooked bacon bits, the toast points on Gorgonzola sauce over shrimp were so awful, our table of 5 left most of it uneaten, the pastas were very bland, the flounder over the pasta was inedible. It was breaded/battered and so soggy that it felt like eaten mashed potatoes over noodles. Don’t pour sauce on top of breaded or battered fish-it will lose all of the texture. It was probably a beautiful piece of fish before the chef destroyed it! 4 out of 5 of us adults were not happy with the food and we will not be back unless it’s just for drinks. The one person who did like their food ordered a pizza and she-crab soup. What I tried of his soup was very good and made me wish I’d done the same! Otherwise the food wasn’t good. The restaurant is so pretty and if they keep the music playing it really adds to the vibe. I see they have many reviews so obviously many people love it but if you’re familiar with good Italian food…..skip it. I’m hoping it was the chefs fault that night and we just got it on an off night. I will say that 3 of us casually mentioned things to the waiter but he was totally uninterested. He was also quite loud and rushed like someone you would see working in a sports bar not a nice restaurant with a dress code. So perhaps that turned us off as well? We still left a large tip because we feel that is a customers responsibility when eating in a restaurant but we don’t plan...
