The Green Cat Juice Bar & Market — Restaurant in Virginia Beach

Let me start this by saying I have been coming to The Green Cat for years and this review is from one particular experience.

I went to The Green Cat today for 2 smoothies, one for myself and one for my 5 year old son who hates bananas. You already know where I’m going…I ordered my smoothie with no modifications and asked for a Shredder without bananas. The woman at the counter was pleasant and asked I’m assuming a manager on how to ring up the smoothie. She came over, typed something on the computer and I was charged $2 extra for ‘add-on’s’. When I asked what the additional add on’s were for since I asked for no banana, I got a very snippy response on how per their menu any modifications are $4, and strawberries are more expensive. This statement is also listed on the full size let’s say adult smoothies- not the children’s smoothies. Also, what if my child had an allergy to bananas? Would I have been charged more for an allergy? Back to the charge, if I had not asked, there wouldn’t have been an explanation. Additionally, I have bought my son strawberry smoothies multiple times before from Green Cat without being charged more for less. She went on to ask me if I didn’t want agave to which I asked if I would be charged more if I said no. Which I believe agave isn’t included on the Shredder. I arrived around 4:10 on Friday, 7 Jan 2022. Service was very unprofessional and not customer satisfaction focused. When I arrived I asked for a minute to figure out what I’d like to order. The server explained that because only two people were there to work they were not serving fresh pressed juice or food. That confused me because there were no other customers in line and only one person leaving who seemed to be drinking a coffee. Then while looking over thpmome bottles beverages I heard the server tell the #2 server to attend to the soup. I then asked if they would at least serve the soup and she said, “Yes I would do that.” Had I not been stuck at a hotel with no transportation I would have gone somewhere else. The servers demeanor was slightly rude but trying to be polite or sell her reasoning for not serving juice or food… entitles is the closest adjective that seems to fit (or lack of integrity and making up a reason to get off early to go perhaps on a date??). It seemed that server #2 may have been new and was obliging to whatever #1 directed her. Concerning the soup - it was very good, so much that I’d like the recipe. Bottom line - good healthy food, strange and very poor service. I'm gluten intolerant, and I've been wanting to try The Green Cat out for a while. The walk up, was beautiful. Lots of greenery. When you walk into the juice bar, there's a small store area full of cute items available for purchase. I went to visit on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded. The space is small, so seating was an issue after ordering. Finding somewhere to stand without feeling in the way was awkward. Finally, someone left, so I was able to sit. I was hoping to sit outside in the patio area, but that was also full (A good problem to have from a business standpoint). The service was good, the staff was very helpful and patient. When my food was ready, they brought it over to where I was sitting. I got a Blue Majik smoothie bowl, and the Strawberry Crisp toast. My boyfriend got the Green Goddess toast and the chili with a coffee. I tried everything and everything was really good! I don't even like gf toast most of the time. Lol! I liked the Green Goddess toast more than the Strawberry Crisp toast. The SC toast is more of a dessert toast (sweet), whereas the GG toast is more of a breakfast toast (savory).
