Nothing is too small. If something can be made better, smarter, healthier, that’s how we want to do it. For us, this means we make everything from scratch from our bread to our booze. We thoughtfully source all of our ingredients. We have active recycling and composting programs that divert about 90% of our waste from landfills. We design and operate sustainable restaurants. We earn LEED and Green Restaurant Association certifications. We started a nonprofit – Our Last Straw – to expand our sustainability efforts beyond the walls of our restaurants. We actively support our neighborhoods and our communities. We grow our people, providing hands-on training, mentorship, and opportunities for continued growth. Our business model, as a farmer-owned company, is designed to ensure American family farmers earn a larger share of the food dollar. Everything is Personal For us, Everything is Personal. We are led by restaurateurs, Michael Vucurevich and Dan Simons, in partnership with Mark Watne, farmer and President of the North Dakota Farmers Union, and the more than 50,000 American family farmers who majority own our restaurants. We are a learning organization of like-minded people, individually and collectively committed to creating delicious and sustainable food and drink, an atmosphere of genuine hospitality, understanding and developing our people, and doing the right things for the right reasons. Food and drink are the fuel on which all humans run. Through learning and teaching, we strive to provide this fuel in ways that align with our principles. Our guests take comfort in knowing that we pay attention, so they don’t have to. Made from Scratch EVERYTHING we serve, all of our food and drink, is made from scratch in our restaurants. Our Co-Owner Michael Vucurevich (known as Mike V.) and Chef Joe Goetze are continually developing our menus, crafting new and delicious ways to serve our guests, starting with simple, high-quality ingredients. That English muffin? Made in our bakery with North Dakota flour and served with jam, also made here. The burger? All-natural beef, ground daily in our restaurants. Those fries? Yep, made fresh each day from the highest quality potatoes. That ice cream? Hand-churned here. Ginger Soda? Our bartenders are also chefs. We boil and reduce fresh ginger crafting our own ginger syrup. Our booze? That too. We have our own distillery, Founding Spirits, located in the heart of our Nation’s Capital inside one of our restaurants. Our award-winning spirits use all American ingredients harvested by American farmers. Originally created for our restaurant craft cocktails, our spirits are available to enjoy at home, including Founding Spirits Dry Gin, Vodka, three types of rum, and a Blanco Tequila.

My husband and I are definitely fans of Founding Farmers. It is a fantastic farm to table chain originating from North Dakota. We had visited the downtown DC location pre-COVID and the experience was worth the 45 minute wait for a table. The nice thing about the Tysons Corner location is there is ample parking and we smartly made a reservation days of time; so no waiting. I think we could have shown up without a reservation and still been seated promptly, even with coronavirus restrictions, but we knew we were attending a holiday lights event nearby; so just made a reservation to be sure a table was available. The staff were very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions; especially seasonal specials. Our server had a lovely conversation with us and even complimented me on my necklace, which led to a conversation about her friend in Hawaii who makes necklaces like mine, which was awesome because my necklace was hand crafted in Hawaii. On to the food....the craft cocktails we tried were delicous...the chestnut whiskey sour was so good! The Cape Cod spritzer was yummy too. My husband ordered a classic whiskey sour, which is why I ordered the chestnut sour...lol. We ordered the ham and biscuits appetizer. Definitely get it...the hams, biscuits, jams, and mustard are a really good combination of flavors. The biscuits are always delicious, even with out the ham. I ordered the rack of lamb entrée and oh my gosh, if you like lamb get this. They cook the meat to your preference...mine is medium rare. The flavors of this dish are awesome. Just get it, you won't regret it. My husband ordered the prime rib and again, amazing! The meat was cooked perfectly and the ajou sauce really stood put to me because it was really flavorful and thicker than other places we've ordered prime rib from before. If you like prime rib, I'd say Founding Farmers is the best I've ever eaten. Then, not that we needed it, but we ordered a slice of cheesecake and pecan pie for dessert...and our server thought we'd like to try some fresh dark chocolate bark fresh out of the oven. Top that off with some espresso shots and oh my gosh, let's just say I'm glad we were going to be walking around looking at holiday lights for the next couple hours because we were so full. We had an amazing evening at Founding Farmers and plan to comeback soon. Thanks and happy holidays! :-)

Updated 5/4/2023 After leaving my initial review and having the concerns I did i was surprised when Kerry reached out from Founding Farmers and wanted to discuss our experience. I will tell you after doing reviews for a long time this was the first time I wasn't given the same canned response of oh well we will do better. No, she wanted to know what went wrong so they could ensure it didn't happen going forward. We discussed this via email and they wanted to make the situation right. She invited us back in to give them another try. We went back for breakfast this morning and I can tell you for certain they have one of the better breakfasts I've had. We all agreed they knocked it out of the park! The manager came out and discussed with us also about our experience prior and also wanted to make sure things are done properly and to there standards. She spoke with the server from the night all the way to the cook. You rarely find a restaurant that goes above and beyond with the hospitality they showed us. I feel everyone is entitled to off day and that's what we chalked it up to. We will definitely be back when we are in the area again! Thank you Kerry and your team for taking care of us and turning it into a win! ----- I had really high hopes... Well staying in the area we looked for somewhere decent to eat. Making a reservation was super easy and the service was decent. Unfortunately the food was just not what we had hoped for. I never usually ask for salt and pepper but the food was lacking flavor. I ordered the prime rib and baked potato. The steak was cooked perfect to medium I ordered but the flavors where just not there. The green beans where tasteless. Another guest with me ordered the prime dip sandwich and couldn't eat most of it due to the bread being so hard. I would say overall I would give a 3.5 star rating and not on my own as everyone agreed the lack of flavor really killed it. We loved the space and the specialty drinks but unfortunately the food was the down fall. For a group of 4 spending $150-$200 you expect it to be pretty amazing.

After a long hike, we decided to stop by this place. I had checked the menu beforehand and saw many options that my husband and I would enjoy. Parking is convenient with a garage right next to the restaurant, and they validate your ticket. Entering through the unique revolving door, we were greeted by the hostess. As she was seating us, I got completely sidetracked by the pastries and pretzels in the bakery. Oh my gosh, I almost wanted to skip lunch and head straight to the bakery! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Once seated, our server Thab came over. He was knowledgeable about the menu and gave us great recommendations. Excellent customer service!!! My husband had the BLT with roasted turkey and avocado sandwich, which was filled with meats, thick-cut bacon, and fresh avocado, served with a side of lemon aioli. Everything was fresh, and the portions were generous, including the freshly grilled sourdough bread. He also had a heaping side of hand-battered okra, which was hot, delicious, and had a light, flavorful batter. I had the prime rib sandwich with corn pudding, which was lightly dusted with brown sugar and cinnamon. I was hoping to try the roasted heirloom carrots in a bourbon-orange glaze, but they were out. Although my meal was slightly underwhelming, it wouldn't stop me from coming back to try other items on the menu. Stop! Before you leave, you MUST try something from the bakery. I had the donut, and it was probably one of the best donuts ever. Even though it had a hole in the middle, it was perfectly filled with cream and a light glaze on top. It's sweet but not overwhelming—just the perfect treat to finish off your meal. The general manager, Michael, was generous and genuinely cared about the meal and the service, something many places have lost sight of. This restaurant clearly values good service and management and stands behind what they serve. This is the type of restaurant you want to eat at because they have truly mastered service and management.

My church family and I decided to visit this establishment for our Pastor and First Lady's appreciation. I wish there was a separate star rating for the service because our server, Niralee was a 5 out of 5. She was genuine and patient. It was everyone's first time and Niralee took her time and explained who the Founding Farmers' restaurants are, what they offer, and the menu items. She was excellent. The food on the other hand would fall between a 2 and a 3 star rating. I appreciate the restaurant's approach to locally sourced foods and scratch recipes, but some items ordered were not as good as advertise. I ordered the Filet mignon with a side salad and green beans. I prefer my steaks medium to medium well, but I have learned to order 1 level up to avoid a rare steak. So I decided to order it well done hoping it would be medium well. Nope; not anyone's fault-it was my first time and I did not know what this restaurant's cook version of medium/medium well. However, my filet mignon was beyond well done; it was dry when I tried to cut it. Niralee was great; she had another filet fired up for me at medium well. The 2nd filet was better, but flavor was okay. The best part of my meal was the appetizer which was the crab and artichoke dip!! Very delicious and clean tasting. I couldn't eat the toast, but used one of the biscuits to dip in the dip. Ordered the homemade ginger sodas; it was good but too sweet for my palate-not their fault. Others in our group had the fried chicken...their chicken breast were cooked well, but the thighs were soggy. What took my breath away was the three additional charges - the restaurant's recovery fee (5%), gratuity for each separate check (22%), and a gratuity tax. I was charge a grand total of $75.37 for my items and it was just me 😳. Like, I get the gratuity, but restaurant's ought not to charge every ticket a separate gratuity when everyone is sitting at the same table. The ambience was welcoming and warm. Farmhouse meets modern.

This place definitely hit the spot! Their location has a nice parking garage right next to them and you can validate it for you. We were a pretty hungry bunch so we had quite a spread. I had sweet tea to deink and my friends had the unsweetened teas. Personally I thought the sweet tra was too sweet for me so I opted for the unsweetened tea and just sweetened it to my liking. We had the crab and artichoke dip and brie with green apples and sweet onions and deviled eggs to start and they were awesome! My personal favorite was the crab and artichoke dip- it came in hot and mixed just right with the crispy bread which was drizzled with olove oil. The brie was exquisite though and it was quite delicious! The deviled eggs were just okay for me but I'm not really a huge fan of it. My friends thought they were great. For our main dishes, I had the steak and enchiladas which I actually read wrong I thought it was steak enchiladas but it comes with a piece of steak and a chicken enchilada with sweet street corn and avocado on top of a bed of lettuce. I mean it's not what I thought I was irdering but it was a nice surprise and a very huge portion especially after having the starters. My friend had the scallops risotto and my other friend had the pot roast. They both looked great and my friends said they were bith delicious! I had a taste of each and I liked the pot roast- it creamy and hearty but the risotto was underdone for me. I get that some would want the risotto a lottle al dente but I wasn't a fan of it. We opted not to have desserts because we were so full but my friend couldn't pass the bakery without getting the créme brulèe donut to go. We ended yp splitting it at home with a cup of coffee and it was divine! Highly recommend.
