Being from Colorado and living in Seattle I have dearly missed good Mexican food. When planning our trip to Walla Walla I came across La Cocina de la Abuela and determined I was going to have a meal here no matter what. I am so glad I did. The tinga beef burrito is full of flavor and a heaping serving. My wife loved her meal as well, although I cannot recall exactly what she had as I'm still dreaming of my burrito. We stopped in around 330 on a Tuesday afternoon and placed our order to go. It was quickly prepared by the kind proprietors and we were on our way home within 10 minutes. I can safely say that next time we visit Walla Walla I will be sure to have another meal at this family establishment.

Very interesting place, the flavors of this place is far from traditional Mexican food. The guy there would not let us know where or what style of food this is but it’s not your traditional Mexican food. Food was decent plenty of room to set, the guy is the founders son, not very personable nor does he share any information of their history, which we were very interested in the style of cooking that he would not share sad! Food was decent though can I recommend this place, not sure has a very different style of Mexican food I’m guessing very southern Mexico style which I’m not used to. Food was not great, but it wasn’t bad. I’m glad we stopped just to experience it.

5 Stars. The food was excellent. Lots of flavor very authentic The Tomatillo sauce was the best I have had. The food presentation was well done. The Mango pudding was delicious!! It also has a very complex flavor profile. They put out a little extra, for example putting a lime in the water. The chips and salsa try had a nice presentation. The proprietor and his help were very friendly and stopped by to check on us and we actually had a conversation. Theybpay attention to little details and make great food. Highly recommend this place and will be back!

We had reservations at a different highly rated restaurant but came across Grandma’s Kitchen. The ratings made us change our minds and we were so happy we did! We ordered the Salpicon Salad, the Pork in Pipian Burrito and chips and sauce. The chips were light and crisp and the 2 sauces were tasty. One was hot and the other mild. The hot salsa is spicy and has an amazing Smokey goodness to it. We were told that Grandma made this!

My salad came and was made without any dairy after our server and Grandma’s son, learned I had a lactose sensitivity. It was huge and beyond delicious. The wild greens were fresh and the chicken in the salpicon was shredded so uniformly and perfectly. “Mama shredded it”, is what we were told. The blend of flavors in the salpicon accompanied by the pepper sauce and vinegar were subtle and delicious. It was healthy and so filling and satisfying. There was also an ample amount of avocados carefully laid on top of the dish. I was in heaven. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the massive burrito. Usually he doesn’t finish a typical burrito, but this one was enjoyed to the last bite. He raved about the blend of flavors and textures. We were seriously stuffed. We had to try the flan and took it to go. Just ate it and the texture and flavor is another exciting adventure for your taste buds!

I wish we had this family restaurant in Seattle. Top quality ingredients melded together for such an enjoyable and healthy homestyle treat! Do not hesitate to go to Grandma’s place! She is adorable too as she visits each table to ensure the food is...

If you're in the Walla Walla area this place is a must. Authentic Mexican cuisine. Great food. It was sort of an accident visit. We were there for Mothers day visiting our daughter and we happen to go to another place that was full. We had ordered something to drink from the other place, but there were no seats available for us to visit. So we walked next door to Grandma's Kitchen because they were closed for another 30 minutes and used their outdoor tables to visit. When they opened they were very polite and let us visit. By that time we were getting hungry and thought we would buy from them. Best decision ever! They were welcoming and very friendly. Again, great food. Great service....
