Women-owned, black-owned business. Started in Berkeley and now in Walnut Creek. Like what the sandwich board says outside the front door “Damn Good Cupcakes.”, Cupcakin’ Bake Shop lives up to the hype and then some. Yummy, delicious, not too sweet, moist mini cakes. These are not your typical cupcakes. Beautifully decorated. There are over a dozen flavors to choose from at any given time. It was very hard to pick!
The Chocolate Raspberry is chocolatey with raspberry puree filling topped with fluffy, airy whipped cream and a fresh strawberry.
If you love carrot cake, get the Carrot cake cupcake - it’s like eating a mini carrot cake filled with chopped walnuts, cream cheese frosting and a cute mini carrot decoration. The cupcake can be boxed in its own specialized box so it doesn’t move.
The size of these cupcakes are great for kids, perfect for parties, showers, birthdays, weddings, cupcake towers. They offer vegan and gluten-free. Dairy free is special order.
They also bake cakes with 7 day notice.
The Walnut Creek location does not have a place to sit, but there is a bench...

Dropped in to what I thought was Kara's Cupcakes but was sorely disappointed instead. I asked about the change in business name but the clerk played dumb and said he never heard of Kara's.
Okay, still willing to try them out. Looked for their gluten-free selection and they had several flavors on offer. Then noticed that they were not separated from the traditional cupcakes, red flag! The clerk again played dumb about my inquiry about cross contamination and ultimately stated "it doesn't matter anyway because everything is prepared and baked together on all the same equipment". Wow, this guy is either horribly representing this company or this is really Cupcakin' at its best. Strange that in 2021 a food service establishment knows nothing about allergens, especially one based in Berkeley.
Wound up leaving without making a purchase. Best I can tell, this place bought a Kara's location and just pasted their name over the existing sign. That's a shame. I'd question the rest of their procedures based on this...

Feedback: So excited to receive notice of my complimentary birthday treat. Very disappointed to drive from Danville to Walnut Creek to discover that the birthday treat is a mini and not s full sized cupcake AND there were hardly any cupcakes left at 5:30 on a Friday evening - many hours before closing. If I had clicked on the coupon code I would have known it was a mini but there was no reason to click on it before I needed it.
Also, asked how many points I had and learned that points are based on number of transactions vs amount spent or number of cupcakes purchased. Again, disappointing.
I hope you’ll consider making changes in these three areas - offer full sized cupcake for birthday gift, reward valued customers by giving points based on amount spent or cupcakes purchased and make sure you have reasonable...
