So first, I don’t think I’ve ever written a negative review about a restaurant before, but what my wife and I experienced last night at Dumpling Hours compels me to post this one.
Bottom line, this place is hostile to seniors, families, and persons with disabilities.
My wife and I are over 70 and went with our adult son to Dumpling Hours for dinner. When we arrived, we noticed an empty table outside. We asked if we could sit there. The hostess just said “no,” and we were ushered to the very back of the restaurant. We were told to sit where two rectangular tables had been placed together, with their long sides parallel to a mirrored wall. If two of us sat at the ends we would have been quite a distance away, so my son sat at one end, and my wife and I sat facing the wall, looking at ourselves in the mirror. After looking around my wife commented that this is where they put all the old people and families. Turns out she wasn’t wrong.
A waitress asked if we wanted something to drink, brought tea, and ignored us for at least 20 minutes. When she finally came back, she told us that we were supposed to order by scanning a QR code. We then noticed that a small sticker facing upside down said, “scan to order.” She took our order and ignored us for another 20 minutes.
When we finally got her attention, she went back to the front, returned, and said that the order had not gone through. A few minutes later she came back with some awful hot and spicy soup and said “on the house, okay?" She left without waiting for an answer. And no, it was not okay.
Meanwhile a new family came into the back, one of whose members was blind. He struggled to make it through the narrow space to the back. Apparently, he, like the rest of us, were to be hidden from view so as not to disturb the restaurant’s young crowd.
I’d like to say the food was worth it, but it was mediocre at best.
The only thing the place did fast was to bring us our checks. Not being jerks, we tipped the waitress with a note saying we did not feel like valued patrons. As we left, we noticed that every single table at the front and outside was occupied by groups of under-thirty singles.
Apparently, no seniors. families, or persons with disabilities...
Read moreRecently tried this Dumpling place on Main Street. We had two servers attending our table of 4 - a man and woman. The woman was extremely nice and a bit confused but the man was exceptionally rude. He dropped our first order on my husband ( this was a mistake most certainly) and then we ordered a few extra items after the initial order which he chastised us about. He claimed the kitchen was getting confused and to order everything at once. This is not our first time at a dumpling place, so if you don't want people to continue adding dishes throughout their meal to fit onto small tables then you should not provide the option to continuously add to an order. Take orders the traditional way instead allowing customers to scan a barcode which allows us to keep adding to our table. He definitely ruined the experience and left a bitter taste in my mouth. Also the prices are higher than Union City or Fremont. I get the prices are higher because of the location but the portion size should accommodate the price. Definitely won't be returning to this place because of the rudeness we experienced.
There is a great place on Locust Street that we tried a couple of months ago - that place is busier but definitely worth the wait and the staff is...
Read moreI paid a visit to dumpling hours today, foods are okay, XLB pork soup dumplings and Pan fried steam buns are top notch, the rest of dishes are so so, I would give the food 4 out of 5, but the service is horrible, to be honest, there were three ladies serving, the older one is rude particularly, first look at me judging then look at the watch, because i entered the store right at 11 am, when they should open, she reluctantly took me and sat me in the corridor without even asking, I spoke Chinese tonher( well I can speak Chinese and it’s a Chinese restaurant) she seems like not willing to talk in in Chinese, then told me to scan the QR code, walked away, I ordered some foods, came relatively quick, but seems like everybody is busy, no smiling, no refill of water, i ordered more foods, so they put two receipts on my table and ladies keep come checking, and told me this one is the final check while I was eating, it’s such a small table, you can see from the picture! I regret going there honestly and gave a 10% tip, I don’t think the service is acceptable, and I don’t understand why everybody tried to speak broken English to me while they all can speak Chinese! Anyway would not recommend this restaurant, again foods are good,...
