The food here is amazing. Just a nice old fashioned hamburger joint with a few other unique and equally great additions to the menu. As good as the food is, what truly makes it old fashioned to me is the staff. The whole staff works hard and is so professional. The gentleman that owns and runs the place (I’m assuming George) is first class in every way and his relationship with customers really put me in awe. I’ve been meaning to write this for a few weeks but things have been so hectic and I wanted to make sure I gave this comment the attention it deserved. While I was waiting for my order, I overheard a conversation the owner had with an elderly gentleman that truly touched me. Seriously. He took the time to actually listen to the customer, where for some reason I feel as though others wouldn’t. They talked about how times are tough, and we need to watch out for each other. How things will get better and what we as a community around Walnut Creek can do to help one another. It was something about the old man’s demeanor, as if someone was actually seeing him and acknowledging him for the first time in a while. None of the other customers in line were bothered by the time they took to talk. Must have been at least a 5 minute conversation. Everyone just seemed to be relaxed. The vibes of the place just put everyone at ease. It felt like the Walnut Creek I remember when I was growing up. So much as changed and society is so fast now that it truly made my afternoon to see the interaction. It gave me a lot of hope for the future and inspired me to take that same attitude and vibe with those I interact with. To the owner if you’re reading this, you’re an outstanding human being and I find myself so lucky to have witnessed the interaction. Thanks for making a fantastic menu, and most importantly, a fantastic shop atmosphere. I’ll be a...
Read moreI came in in the last hour before it closed. I kept hearing about this place, but I never visited it, so I guess today was good as any other.
When you walk in you can feel the history all around the walls which tells a story per say. I was lucky enough to meet the owner himself briefly and noticed that he hasn't seen my face around and gets acquainted with me. I just ordered the simplest menu I can acquire good old fashion cheeseburger and fries, though I was also tempted to also purchase the martinelli sparkling cider soda.
The burger is plain and simple nice fluffy bun, meat and cheese burger any other toppings you can serve them yourself, though I gotta say after I was very intrigued to try the " house spicy mayonnaise " which hit it out if the ball park for me as a good sauce for the burger. Fries were also fresh and simplestic, the first thing I notice is there isn't any salt like most restaurants, but I'd say it was good without the salt.
Overall, food is classic and fresh, a good decent meal price sits around for $10 which is not bad in my book, but the cake that takes it for me is the socializing of the place. The kitchen and front counter was close enough for employees not to do only work, but also strike conversations with customer alike. It has a sense of community to it, just like one other family burger place back in Mariposa where you can just talk with any other people who are also dining in the place, which is a rare thing to find in any burger place.
So it's a great place, good people, good food and good community. I would head back there again to try out that Hawaiian burger and hopefully succumb myself to get that Martinelli drink I...
