Oishi Sushi & Grill — Restaurant in Walnut Creek

Today, I placed a takeout order. I'm dressed very casually, as we're in the middle of a heatwave and it's my day off. The woman at the counter looked me up and down and straight up asked if I was "lost". I told her I was there for a takeout order and gave my name. I ignored the comment, and I figured I'd see if the food was worth it, while trying to rationalize her behavior. Maybe she had a bad day? The heat gets to us all, sometimes.

The shrimp tempura was good, but not excellent. I personally prefer thicker batter, but others may find it to be too thick or heavy, especially if you are used to more traditional, light-battered tempura. The oil was greasier and heavier than most tempura orders I've eaten. Again, I enjoyed this dish, but others may find it too heavy.

The cherry blossom roll was a massive disappointment. All I could taste was the cucumber. Both the salmon and the tuna on my roll were flavorless and frozen, and had chunks of ice within the meat to prove it. Frozen fish is at a higher risk of food-bourne illnesses, as stock isn't rotated properly and is instead frozen and then thawed again and again. This is dangerous, and puts customers at massive health risks.

Overall, an incredibly disappointing experience. I won't be coming back, as there are too many excellent sushi restaurants in downtown Walnut...

First Star: Is the location neat? Yes. The tables and restaurant were very clean despite a busy day of large families visiting.

Second Star: Is the staff friendly? Yes. They were attentive to our needs.

Third Star: Is the service prompt? Yes. They moved tables quite quickly despite having several large groups and takeout orders.

Fourth Star: Is the product/service satisfactory? Yes. The AYCE rolls are far more humble than the full menu offerings, but AYCE is a game of quality over quantity. Even so, the rolls were quite acceptable. The rice was not dry or densely packed. The fish, while portioned out very carefully across rolls was also of good quality.

Fifth star: Is the price acceptable? Yes. The AYCE option is a bit on the pricier side but they offer drinks and appetizers with the menu. Together this option can be quite a value...

The food is great however the restaurant, the way it's being ran, not good I am Mexican Puerto Rican and black and my man is black, we pay good money to spend here but the employees are racist and treat me and my boyfriend differently every time we come to eat. The women named gupi harassed my boyfriend by starting at us the whole time we were eating out meal and refused to get the checked after we asked once we had to aske 4 times for the check. That same day we noticed they added fish eggs on out baked Alaska without warning that there was a slight change in the buffet menu but instead ruined our food the last time we showed up. Not only that the staff is racist towards black people, the way we were treated was...
