We went to dinner last night, had a late reservation 1015pm. That was a mistake but it was our first time there. The atmosphere we amazing and the waitress was friendly. We sat outside our appetizers were amazing! We ordered the truffle garlic bread and arancini? Both were hot and fresh and we were excited! I think our waitress may have forgotten that we needed to place dinner order. She took our appetizer order and never came for dinner. After we finished our appetizers.she eventually came and we asked if we could place our order for dinner. It was approximately around 1045 at this point. She took your order and we waited still excited about the food to come..food came out around maybe 1115. It did look good,.however that was all. .we both ordered the aged ribeye, potatoes, I ordered asparagus and my friend ordered roasted carrots. The best thing about the food was the potatoes. They needed a little salt but were passable. MY steak I ordered med well. The inside was cooked perfectly. I could not figure out why the outside was so tough. I had to saw into it to eat. Also it had no flavor at all. It tasted like it was just placed on the grill without even a sprinkle of salt. My friend ordered steak well done. It was worse than mine and also no flavor at all. There was a sweet homemade horseradish sauce that we tried to used to give it some flavor. I have had good steaks before and don't like to use sauce on my steak because I feel it hides the true flavor. This however was the only flavor the steak had. The asparagus was ok also no seasoning either. Roasted carrots were ok but not that great. We were so disappointed because we started off enjoying it so much. So if you go do not make a late reservation. Also the steak had no flavor. I would like to go again but it would only be because of the bread..but our bill was close to $200 including tip and we still had to go and get food elsewhere. This is only my experience and it was my first time. I don't blame anyone i just felt that the food should be good no matter what.time you go. I should note that we did not pay attention to the fact that the restaurant did close at 11pm. So that is why I saying maybe our experience was due to being rushed to close...
Read moreWe held our family reunion luncheon at Mezzo and had a fantastic experience in the upstairs private room. I coordinated the event from Florida with Tina Stiver, Mezzo's Lead Events Coordinator. At the last minute, two families could not attend. I contacted Tina asking for the room's table arrangement to be modified since six people were now not going to be there. Mezzo's staff were able to quickly make this configuration change. Elizabeth, the restaurant manager, met with us at the restaurant a couple days before the event so we could see the space and she was there to assist us on the event day. We appreciated her willingness to make any changes we requested such as lowering the music until after our presentations were over. The room, the tables, and the table settings looked wonderful when we walked into the room for the luncheon. Mezzo provided lovely personalized menus for the adults and children's menus and crayons for the six youngsters attending. Chris was our server extraordinaire. He masterfully managed a room of 29 folks. The food presentation was excellent, as was the taste. All commented on how delicious the food was. Thank you Mezzo for starting off our reunion week-end in Dublin with a wonderful, memorable luncheon. I highly recommend Mezzo for special events - or just for a lovely meal. Parking was easy at or near the Dublin Library parking garage. For those folks who need to be dropped off near the restaurant, there is a pull-in area on Darby Street and Mezzo is...
Read moreYou are paying for the atmosphere, not the food, when you dine at Mezzo. When you spend $27 on a plate of gnocchi, you're paying for $1-2 worth of ingredients (it's store bought, vacuum sealed pasta), and the rest is spent on the decor and rent. That's my only explanation for how the food could be so forgettable yet cost so much.
The garlic truffle cheese bread was ok. The problem was that it had no garlic (none - couldn't even detect a hint of powder) and I had to fool myself in thinking I tasted truffle, which is NOT a subtle ingredient. If they called it cheese bread and sold it as a $4 app, I'd give it 5 stars.
Between the mysterious missing ingredients on the bread, the shelf stable pasta and the serviceable but non-memorable margherita pizza, we stopped halfway through our food, and went somewhere else for the rest of dinner.
There's a reason the website doesn't have a chef on it. No culinary expert would claim this food.
If there was a highlight, it was the drinks. We had a couple signature cocktails, and we enjoyed them. Perhaps this set our expectations too high for the food, but we were not disappointed by our beverages.
It's a beautiful building, great location, nice-enough people, and it's unfortunate the tradeoff is mediocre meals. It's a cheap imitation of good food wrapped in fancy decor with fine dining prices. It wasn't bad, but there's nothing here that you won't get somewhere else either better quality or more appropriately priced.
There's just no reason...
