I had breakfast today at this place during my long-weekend visit to DC. Completely overrated bakery. Being a connoisseur of fine bakeries I can assert this place only lives by its French name. Being owned and managed by a true French family this bakery falls extremely short to expectations. In our group of six people five came out very disappointed from our experience. As another reviewer noted the chocolate almond croissant was dry (probable a couple of days - maybe three - in the front shelf) and wasn't even heated at the time of serving it. The menu has the most basic explanation of each meal not properly specifying each dish ingredient. I ordered a crepe filled with wild mushroom and the crepe was totally brown as it was made with buckwheat flour, an ingredient I dislike a lot and not specified in the menu. When returning it and asking for a replacement the owner tried to negotiate with me a 50% discount on the replacement dish; which I obviously rejected as it wasn't my fault. I then ordered a cheese omelette and asked to add extra ham. When arrived, at the first bite, I noticed it was made with goat cheese; which I can't stand. I had to leave the entire plate on the table but didn't returned to avoid back and forth issues and to break the good time we're trying to have as a family at the table. So my wife got me a plain croissant instead so I could eat something. Well, the "brilliant" server had the magnificent idea to heat the beautifully made puff pastry croissant in the microwave so it destroyed the flavor and consistency of a fine pastry of this type. My in law bought a French baguette to go, as it was reviewed as on of the signature items from the famous bakery. It was as hard and dry to eat as the wheel of our SUV. My mother in law also left half of her dish. Finally, my two sons asked me to use the restroom before hitting the road. This probably was the most traumatic experience of all. The floor was covered by urine, sticky like gum on the most disgusting scenario you can possible imagine. This was at only 9:50 am (I can't imagine by noon what it will look like) ! I had to hang on the air with two 6 & 10 years old kids begging them to not touch the floor with their feet nor touching anything inside as so we could exit without a disease. I can't understand how the Town's health department can allow a bakery/restaurant to operate to the public under such unhealthy environment. The only item that was good was the Orangina drink because it comes sealed so they don't have the chance to screw it up! After a $124 of uneaten breakfast bill we ran away from the "highly-reviewed" Boulangerie Christophe as fast as we could. I don't tend to write negative reviews but I couldn't go to sleep tonight without sharing my horrible experience at this place so other can save a bad breakfast as me and my family had, and specially at those prices. This IS NOT a good quality French bakery. Is extremely OVERRATED and...
Read moreI'm constantly on the hunt for bakeries and searching specific pastries and experiences. While I did find one bakery, unfortunately I don't have the luxury to wake early in the morning and indulge in the sweets that I had been searching for for the last two years. Lo and behold however! I found a bakery that bakes and sells the pastry I was in search for and was still available though it was getting close to closing time.
Boulangerie Christophe is a beautiful bakery. In a lovely location that would probably look a lot more gorgeous if it hadn't been raining when I chose to visit, it can also be a little on the tricky spot to...well spot. As soon as you walk in, you're created warmly by the pâtissiers behind the display case and each individual, just like the pastries, are unique and different. They were very patient with me and my indecisiveness.
I spent at least a good five minutes falling in love with the mini pastries and the many croissants that I would've enjoyed buying. Alas! I chose to purchase only two croissants that day as well as two other pastries.
I bought an Apricot Croissant, Pistachio Croissant, Canelés and a Raspberry Charlotte. I wanted nothing more than to eat every last one as soon as I got home, but that would just be too greedy~. I did indulge myself in the Raspberry Charlotte and it was amazing! The custard was smooth and creamy; not too sweet and it complimented the deliciously sweet and tart raspberries. I never had anything so decadent and worth the rain to get to. Now, for breakfast, I did have the Apricot Croissant and it was perfectly flaky and buttery. I can't wait to try the canelés and the Pistachio Croissant.
If you're ever in the market for cute pastries and buttery croissants, then come to the warm and inviting Boulangerie Christophe. You definitely...
Read moreI was a bit disappointed with experiences after seeing the review in this place. I was craving quich and danishes. Before duing after i received my food, i wasn't happy with what I saw and experienced. Quiche serving cold that even heated up in microwave but not heated it all the way through. Also, danishes were moist, not having buttery flake taste, and not being able to enjoy flaked textures from danishes. Expected fresh just came out from oven danishes early in the morning, but I felt that it wasn't the taste and texture of danishes that I received. Last one I noticed that people working here wearing blue gloves and touch everything such as grab danishes, food, equipment, cash, ring up orders, packing, others and nobody were changing gloves or wash hands after they touched none food items. After all, these people continue to grab danishes by hand, not using utensils to grab any food items for other guest's orders. There was a person standing in front of the line area, but he did not help anybody guiding, helping to choose the menu, or even greeting. He had an earpiece on, but he did not help out anybody but just standing there with dead eyes while three other people were working in line to take care of people waiting on line. He should at least clean around the table area, remove dead insects from the window area, wipe down tables, or at least smile and greet guests to enjoy the experiences. It's a busy and popular place in Georgetown, but there are many other clean, small bakeries, coffee shops in the same street that offer better...
