Well, now. First things first. Before writing this review, it occurred to me that Dolcezza stands directly across H St. from Starbucks.
Occupying the once active stomping grounds of "The Wydown," which, sadly, is no longer.
It's become somewhat rather obvious that Starbucks has seen better days. Perhaps it's ran its course.... ultimately existing as both an institution....and a dinosaur.
And if Starbucks is, in fact, that dinosaur......then Dolcezza is clearly the new behemoth on the Jurassic Park Coffee & Decadence block.
I might begin with making note of Dolcezza's very expensive menu that begins with the tried and true and moves, without apology, into the more exotic maybe even exquisite areas of the coffee, teas, latte's, ice cream....and interesting edibles that Howard Schultz never dared even dream of (Given H Streets notoriety for dispensaries... I don't mean those kinds of edibles).
The atmosphere inside is relatively unpretentious. It's spacious, yes, but could stand more tabled seating both on the inside...as well as the outside. Especially the outside.
I must confess that the Dolcezza menu is extensive. Meaning that it would take days to get a sense of its "culinary artistry." Which I'm unable to do, and given, that taste is subjective I would think it safe to invite the reader to become what I might call a "connoisseur tourist" to this addition to our humble and somewhat rather colorful little community.
Take the risk.
Take the adventure.
Welcome to the jungle.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreJust stopped by the grand opening of Dolcezza on H St., where there was a line already out the door for a free scoop to celebrate the opening. I tried the honey avocado orange flavor, while it was pretty tasty, I decided to go with my favorite, their tried and true mango sorbetš„
This has been my second time in a line at Dolcezza in the last week, so take it as a sign that itās that good! The City Center location is also very popular.
Dolcezzaās new store on H St., NE is nice with seating inside and a small counter along the window for good people watching along H St.
The menu seemed the be the standard Dolcezza menu of ice cream and sorbet with unique flavors like Black Sesame, honey-crisp apple, Thai coconut milk and Mascarpone and berries. I was SO HOPING to try their seasonal, passion fruit mousse soft serve, but sadly, it wasnāt on the menu.š©
The staff was friendly and welcoming.
Street parking can be tricky given the location, but luckily thereās a public parking garage across the street.
Look forward to visiting again to check out new seasonal flavors. Iāve been a fan of Dolcezza for YEARS! In fact I went to the first tour of their factory by Union Market when it opened back in the day, many years ago and got to try their sorbet right off the ālineā. I can say that was a memorable experience meeting the owners and hearing their story about how Dolcezza started.
If youāre in the H Street corridor and in the mood for a sweet treat and/or coffee, Dolcezza will...

My other flavor was basic peanut butter ship, although I think i was given the wrong one cause it was like a chocolate chip and didn't taste peanut? Still was great. The only disappointment I had was not being able to see all the Gelato since it was in stainless steel bowls with a lid. Not the best presentation since they have a lot of flavors. That you can try. They also do coffee and tea, with some pastries items. Not sure if they are made in house or local shop. If not in house they definitely should network with a local shop since it doesn't seem like they have a huge spot for them. Seating was questionable, honestly. I saw window stool seating for like 6? And a table around the corner. This place is attached to something more, just not sure what. It didn't seem to inviting to look around for some reason. But not to say you can't? I just didn't. Aside from all that, the price was slightly high per scoop, but that's DC. They sell pints, but for $13.. no thank you. Doesn't seem like they have a big selling point or local tradition people fall in love with. Like specials, events or something to bring back the same people and grow memories. Kinda just a place to spot in for city...
