If you are interested in mediocre, expensive Mexican food with terrible service, Guapo's is your place. I ate at Gaupo's last week (not the first time) and the service was horrible. I waited for a long time before a waitress showed up to take my order (my wife was there and had already ordered and gotten a taco salad of some sort), and I asked what sort of beers were on tap (not on the menu) and she didn't know, but said she would check. She disappeared for a long time, and came back and told me what they had, and I ordered one.
She again vanished for a long time and eventually another waiter showed up and asked me if he could take my order. I told him I had given it to a another waitress a while ago and he sort of rolled his eyes and told me he would take my order and make sure I got it. Eventually a different waitress showed up with my beer and I said I would like to order an appetizer. I gave her my order and she left with it. After 20 minutes or so, I saw her and tried to get her attention, but she ignored me. At some point after that, another waiter apparently saw me trying to get her attention and said he would get her. After another 10-15 minutes or so, she showed up at my table and asked if I was ready to order. I said I already ordered and she seemed surprised and said she would check on it.
After another 10-15 minutes or so, the other waiter stopped and asked if I had ordered yet. I told him I had ordered some time ago with the waitress. He again said he would check on my order. After another 5-10 minutes, another person showed up and asked to take my order. At this point, I was completely fed up and told him I had ordered some time ago, but I just wanted to cancel it now and just get the check. He was visibly annoyed and eventually brought the check, which conveniently included an I-85 surcharge and a large "suggested tip." At this point, I probably should have left the appropriate tip of $0.00, but I left 15% anyway.
Last time going to this...
Read moreHad a going away lunch for a coworker here. The place was fairly empty when we arrived so it was easy to find seating. The chips and salsa for the table were great. This is how I like my tortilla chips. Super thin and crispy. They were still warm when they arrived at our table.
Mojito While my coworkers got margaritas I ordered a mojito. It was pretty good. One of the better ones I've had.
Fish and shrimp tacos with a side of rice and beans. You can get 3 tacos with your order and you can mix them up. I decided to do 2 shrimp tacos and 1 fish taco. The fish taco was good. No complaints. Same with the shrimp tacos. There were no toppings with the shrimp tacos but the fish tacos had something on them. The shrimp tacos were in a sauce that I liked though. They also came with a green sauce that added a nice flavor.
Now the rice and beans were just a side but man, the rice was GOOD. Perfectly cooked for my taste. I was thinking about how I could get my rice at home to taste this way. Mixed with the beans it made a delicious side.
Overall good meal. Service was timely, responsive, and not over bearing. We had a good time wishing our coworker best of luck on his future endeavors while eating...
Read moreI'm a fan of Guapo's because I LOVE their sizzling fajitas! It's one of the few Tex Mex restaurants besides Uncle Julio's that still serves a nice platter of veggies.
I also appreciate how the tortillas are homemade and thick enough so they don't break on you. I wish cheddar cheese was served with the fajitas (I paid extra for it) with a larger portion of guac. My husband enjoyed his enchiladas.
The margaritas are a tad sweet, but I enjoyed the Mango Margarita. It would be nice to have the option to order a pitcher of sangria.
While I enjoyed the fresh guacamole and generous size of the app, it's quite steep at $16. I've never paid that much for guacamole even for table-side, and especially surprised paying that much at a casual Tex Mex restaurant like Guapo's. The chips are a bit bland. The math didn't add up here.
The server was really nice as he packed me extra tortillas to take home, which I used to make my own fajitas a few days later. The tortillas keep really well.
Nice outdoor seating with little wait and delicious Tex Mex food at mostly reasonable prices (except the guac!). Will be back if I'm in the area and excited to try out the new location...
