Visited Lake Junaluska for a week and came here for lunch one day. The inside was pretty open and we were seated immediately. There was only one waitress serving the entire restaurant, and she did well, but sometimes I thought she could use a little help. This place was good, but a few things kept it from being a perfect five stars.
We had kids, so we ordered some appetizers and requested they be brought out with the main meal so all the food came out at once -- chicken satay and a side of rice and some potstickers. They got brought out early despite the request. Restaurant has a variety of asian food: sushi, Pho, small selection of Thai and Chinese etc, plus some kid options (Corndogs etc). Everyone should be able to find something.
Wife (half asian, her Mom ran Chinese restos growing up) got the Tom Kha and said it was unlike any other Tom Kha she'd gotten. Complex, and good, but different; extremely frothy. I ordered the Beef Pho and thought the meat was a lot tougher (both the strips and beef balls) then I am used to in Pho from Atlanta, Vegas, CA etc. Dumplings were mid, could have used a little more seasoning, they were very meaty.
The kids liked their food. Parents thougt the food was fine. 20% gratuity automatically applied for a party of 6 (usually it's parties of 8), not a huge deal just be forewarned and don't accidentally double tip. Drink service was a little slow and so was the check.
Very passable, especially for a tourist town in the mountains but not going to wow you if you like more authentic asian food. Check it out if you're in the area and want...
Read moreMy wife and I enjoy Asian cuisine but have been disappointed with several of the restaurants in the Waynesville area. That all changed last evening when we decided to check out the new Suwana restaurant on Main St in Waynesville. The food was absolutely delicious. My wife had the stuffed Jalapeno appetizer which was actually very mild and cooked to perfection. She followed that with Pineapple Curry which she said was a very good curry. I ordered what is described as Salmon Wrap with crab stuffing. (See photo) The salmon and stuffing were amazing. I ordered the Ramen Chicken Noodle Soup. I really enjoy Ramen prepared this way and have had it from a variety of restaurants in Asheville and Florida. I have never experienced the layer of flavors this ramen featured. It was definitely one of the best bowls of ramen I've had the pleasure of eating. This dining experience has led me to believe we've found our new go to restaurant for Asian food in Waynesville. BTW, Brandon, a fellow and his wife who dined next to us said the Pad Thai was delicious. Note: Always be patient with...
Read moreThis was my first time dining here and I was extremely impressed and inspired by the flow of the staff.
The entire restaurant filled up shortly after my party arrived.
The service team was short staffed leaving only 2 servers and 1 sushi chef. These 3 teammates were phenomenal. It was clear that the odds were stacked against them with all tables filled and only 2 servers. Both servers were on top of everything. And the sushi chef would serve and support tables when she wasn’t preparing sushi.
These 3 teammates should be highly commended on their ability to stay calm, committed and cheerful as they held down the fort like true professionals.
Some of our food did come late which we expected given the circumstances. And yet, I couldn’t hold it against them as I watched them never missing a beat, completely focused on ensuring everyone was cared for. All 3 staff members had a warmth about them that was genuine.
Even under the circumstances it was the best experience I’ve had in a restaurant in...
