I was there, idk, not sure if this was the tavern or just the experience. But there was a table with a couple and a female friend. There was a MAGA hat going around to all three. Laughing and carrying on, knowing and trying to get a rise from other patrons.
I was sitting with my friend at the table behind theirs, and we could here everything they were saying. Now, wear your hat, have your views. But don't speak the way someone wearing that hat is typically known to speak. Then when noticed, act as if you're an upstanding good person.
(I'm telling you, full conversation about "the blacks". Yes they said that. When when a rap song would play the would into the air "N*a". Fully excusing themselves because they said it with an A, and that "They" say it so it's ok. Not to mention, the speak of middle easterners, followed by the "Lalalalala" mimic from the blonde woman if the group. Just loathsome people.)
So. What does this have to do with the restaurant? Well during this whole spectacle, a representative of the restaurant was dipping in and out of there conversation while he dj'd music from a front room/ booth. Laughing with their poor humor, and adding barbs to the ethnic masses.
A separate couple sitting at the bar, had enough leaving the establishment, casting glare at this group. The fellow with the MAGA hat, yelled "What?" "Are really you serious with that thing?" "I can wear this hat. Way to be tolerant." "F* you," said the man as the couple walked out the door. Then the mini Trump, entitled, jump up from his seat following them out the door. While the dj, laughed through all of this.
So as I said , the restaurant or the experience? I didn't give this place a single star because our server was great, and the food was on the better side of bar food. The restaurant condoning outward blatant racism, and honestly deplorable behavior, was a turn off. Marks down.
I was embarrassed to the enth, as I had a client from Canada, in town. Who was honestly tweeting and sharing his time at CrossRoads. Astonished that Americans are for real walking stereotypes. Siting that this is why, when he travels he's noticed the influx of anti American views. Shocked that how anyone would utter such contempt for another based on the color of skin, or religious beliefs....
Read moreMy friend raves about this place and their cookie skillets, and he wanted to go for dinner. The server greeted us, I asked for lemons for water, she returns after 10 minutes to take our order with no lemons. I ordered a turkey burger and confirmed with her the burger has no pickles; when the food arrives there's a huge pickle on the plate. When my friend explains to her that I'm allergic, she first offers to remove the pickle from the plate, and when he told her to replace the entire thing, she says to me "when you said no pickles, I just thought you didn't want it on the burger, I didn't know it was due to allergies". In ordering I asked TWICE - I initially tried to remove but it was touching the actual burger. My friend then asked to order the cookie skillet as we were finishing our meals, because after all - that's what he really wanted. He also asked for another Coke - it took her another ten minutes to bring it. Finally, she brings the check - no cookie skillet. Although she rarely returned to check on us and we spent more time waiting and looking for her in intervals, she somehow picked up the pace when it was time to pay the bill!
I understand that restaurants can be busy and short staffed, but this wasn't the case. There were two tables occupied when we arrived, and a few tables outside. Next time, we'll just make the...
Read morePretty neat looking bar and grill. The service is great and the drinks flow freely. Mainly the 'Dirty Apple Cider' which mixes Vanilla Vodka, Rum, and Angry Orchard Cider. Yum. (I love cider, rum, and the two combined. Throwing in vanilla vodka was worrisome at first but what a win!)
I'm a fan our any place with an outside area, I just wish they had a larger one. Not their fault there just isn't the room but you can't complain about what they do have! The inside is pretty cool in a bar meets restaurant meets western meets industrial feel. (The tables are wood on top of barrels which is pretty awesome)
The food here is just ok. It's more of a sports bar with a focus on the drinking and games that are on. Which, don't get me wrong, is all great. I just think if their food was better It'd be a smash hit of where I want to hang out at after work.
That being said the few times I've been here what I can suggest eats wise is: bbq pork curly fries for the appetizers, the BBQ Chicken wrap and the West Loop Philly (steak) for food with sweet corn tots on the side. The burgers are decent too but you'll probably want to go the BBQ route for the taste factor. With how cool the place looks and friendly the staff is I really just wish the food was better so I could give...
