Third Rail Tavern — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

I came in from the cold on a Sunday evening and sat down on the end of the long bar.

There are also tables around the opposite wall. Some of those were occupied but most people were seated at the bar watching the NFL games on one of the many TVs in this smaller establishment.

I started with an Old Fashioned that was well done. It was more bar-like in that it was a glass filled with ice but it didn't water down too much. I typically prefer a single cube but that's only in places specializing in cocktails. This Old Fashioned was quite good and I was happy.

I waited a while and then ordered a couple sliders and the fire fries. The sliders (pulled pork and corned beef) were very good. I paired them with a hazy IPA on tap that was also surprisingly good.

This all while people watched games, yelled for their teams, talked with the bartender or said quietly. The place was never too loud but it was also not packed.

I used to love third rail, especially for their food. But the new wings they have are not good. Please switch back to your breaded wings!

Updated 3/27/2023: I had to change my ratings after two recent less than ideal experiences. I’m assuming management must have changed because there are a lot of new and rude workers. Plus the rules change what seems like daily. On two separate occasions I’ve been told either they don’t serve food or they’re done selling food. Which one is it?! Plus the server was rude and remarked “I don’t know what’s going on, I just work here.” What an incredibly irresponsible and unprofessional statement to make.
