Bocaditos Chicago is the kind of restaurant where the food speaks louder than any decor, though the upscale setting and warm atmosphere certainly set the stage. What truly stood out, though, was the sheer attention to flavor, detail, and balance in every bite. I came in looking to end the night on a high note and left completely blown away by the fried pork belly tacos, which were the special of the day. Trust me, if they’re available when you go, do not skip them. From the moment the plate hit the table, the aroma was mouthwatering, warm, savory, with the faint sweetness of grilled pineapple and the sharp freshness of red onion. Each taco was artfully assembled: a soft, house-made corn tortilla cradling thick chunks of crispy pork belly, seared to golden perfection. The outer layer had a crackling crispness, while the inside remained tender and juicy, almost melting as you chewed. What elevated these tacos even further was the medley of fresh toppings: bright red onion, fragrant cilantro, a thin slice of crisp radish, and the surprising pop of sweet pineapple, which perfectly balanced the richness of the pork. A generous spoonful of homemade salsa brought just the right amount of heat and tang, tying everything together. It was a bite that hit every flavor note, salty, sweet, spicy, and fresh with stunning harmony. Each bite was better than the last. It didn’t just satisfy, it left me thinking about flavors, textures, and the magic of well-crafted food. My only regret? Not ordering a second round. Highly recommended.

I celebrated my birthday at this restaurant and I definitely enjoyed myself. I loved the aesthetics and the vibe. The food and drinks were also good. I had the shrimp tacos which were so delicious. The million dollar margarita was good as well.

This place is a solid 3.5āļøs. Happy hour on an early Friday, and the crowd was thin, but in this bustling West Loop locale, Im sure this will get very packed. How else could it survive in this high rent district. Just a block away is the famed and popular Monteverde. So I would think this was a safe bet that this was going to have very flavorful and memorable food. It started out well! The east coast oysters (though smaller) had a lot of ocean and briney notes with the heat from the hot sauce and mignonette. The west coast oysters, though plumper, was more on the fishy tasting side. Both still very good! The tacos though was a different story. Their pollo tacos was nicely flavored due to their marination; and the house made side sauce complimented the overall taste. However, the porkbelly taco had very little flavor, which I would have expected it be bold and unctuous. There was not much to this taco. There was good char and some fattiness, but there was hardly any seasoning. Very disappointed in that but still satisfied. Lastly, the service was top-notch! This rating is mainly for the food that I had ordered and in no way represents the service.

Save your time and money and skip this place. To sum it up, horrible customer service. You will not get your food order, and when you do it really isn’t worth it.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon at around 2:30 pm with my husband, our two friends, and their toddler daughter. The restaurant was not busy, there were only 3 to 4 tables and it remained that way for the time that we were there. The customer service is the worse experience we have ever had in Chicago. We ordered our drinks and it took at least 20 minutes for that to arrive. The drinks were not complicated. The server got my drink order wrong but I didn’t say anything at that point because I didn’t think it was a big deal.

We ordered our meals and waited almost an hour before asking the server to check on our food. We did not order anything intricate that would take so much time. Tacos and Fajitas. The server came back twenty minutes later and said only the fajitas were in the oven and the rest of our order was ā€œlost.ā€ Then he went away for another ten minutes and came back and said that actually the fajitas were not in the oven and that he needed to take our whole order again. I asked the server how he managed to completely forget that we ordered food and he could not answer me. We stayed mainly because we were too hungry at this point and did not want to deal with the hassle of finding another place. The manager came around and apologized and said he would apply a generous discount. The food finally came and it was decent but not worth the experience. When the bill came it was $192 total and he only discounted $44.00 from the drinks. They also had the nerve to put an Auto Gratuity of 20% ! I would understand if it was a party of six, but it was four adults and a 2.5 year old. I think they knew that we were not going to tip due to the poor customer service and chose to be greedy instead.

Again the place was not busy, only 3-4 tables the whole time. We would be more understanding if they were packed or if our server was honest and said something along the lines of ā€œI’m so sorry, I completely forgot.ā€ Or, ā€œI’m too high and have no idea what I’m doing right now.ā€ The audacity of the manager with his pathetic discount and the nerve of tacking on an auto gratuity for a small party on the bill. SAVE YOUR...

I would rate this experience the bare minimum. Not intended for BIG groups, photos make this place look big and it’s tiny. The food was good the service from our waiter was poor (lucy was her name) I went in with my friends for my birthday (party of 10) prior to the reservation i called and asked if the checks can be divided for my guest the lady said yes since i called in advance (if it can't be done just say that) Lucy's face UPSET said she'd talk to her manager came back said only 6 checks, okay cool right? No her face again looks upset and said "yea i’ll see what i can do" girl if it can't be done or you can't handle it just say that from the start i would have had us just do one check if it cost my service sucking! Lucy our waiter did not look like she can handle a big table as she never asked if we wanted refills, failed to give one of my guest one of her plates she ordered but added it to her recipe in attempt to charge her, i ordered a mango alcoholic drink which is a slushy with a rose and chamoy however rather than tell me "hey we're all out" she comes with the drink and it's watered down, no chamoy and no rose. I told her "isn't this supposed to come with x y z" shes like yea we're all out, wouldn't you guys make sure to come back to the table and say this prior. She came back with a slushed one, drops of chamoy, no rose later.. ok while i watch the table behind me and their waiter handled everything with easy (as i asked the table behind me). NOT TO MENTION along with the gratuity included i planned on giving her a GREAT tip and hand cash withdrawn that i planned on giving her for her time but the service was so poor she probably didn't even care and if you go with a big group (which i don’t recommend) ask for...

The experience at Bocaditos was the second to worst restaurant experience I’ve had. We had a 7 pm reservation for nine people, and we were all there, on time, ready to eat. But nope! The manager tells us our table isn't ready.

After waiting for fifteen minutes without any update, we asked what was up. Turns out, the people before us showed up a whopping 45 minutes late for their reservation, which was apparently holding up our entire section. Meanwhile, we could see TWO empty tables just sitting there! When we asked about those, the manager said they were for another reservation, and we would have to keep waiting outside in the cold – it was only about 45 degrees and several of the girls in our group were not wearing jackets. We stood out there for a solid 35 minutes before they finally let us in.

And guess what? Our table still wasn't ready! We had to wait another ten minutes while they waited for the previous patrons to leave. The manager said he'd make it right by giving us two free appetizers. Seriously? For a party of nine, that was the equivalent of one bite for each of the 9 people. After waiting 45 minutes for a reserved table, it felt like a slap in the face, especially since he let us know he had offered free drinks to the previous patrons to leave sooner but failed to offer us the same courtesy. Then came the food. I ordered the cochinita pibil tacos, and honestly, one of them was just full of cartilage and fat. The other one? Had a bone in it! For six bucks a taco, that's just lazy. The only decent things about the place were the drinks, which were actually pretty creative, and the chips and salsa. But yeah, it was a really disappointing experience....
