A Disappointing Takeout Experience
This review is for a takeaway order from Lan Noodle in West Hollywood. While one dish was a highlight, the overall experience was severely underwhelming and overpriced.
The only genuinely good part of the meal was the Golden Rice with Chicken. It was quite flavorful, came as a decent size portion, and was definitely the saving grace.
Unfortunately, the rest of the order fell flat. We tried the Braised Beef Noodle with Flat Noodles, which was profoundly underwhelming. The broth was fine, but for the $17.99 price tag, the portion of protein was insulting. I received only four small, approximately one-inch cubes of beef. Seriously, "Where's the beef?" Charging that much for essentially a bowl of noodles and broth feels like a rip-off.
To top it off, the Sour Plum Drink was bizarrely unpleasant. I was expecting something refreshing and tart, but instead, it tasted strongly of smoke—like I was sucking on a smoked briquette from a barbecue. That extreme smoky flavor is something that absolutely needs to be included in the menu description.
All in all, this was a disappointing takeout experience. Based on the majority of our order, I do not recommend Lan Noodle, especially...
Read moreThis place is absolutely revolting. I’ve eaten in plenty of restaurants before, but never in my life have I seen something this disgusting. I came here for Lanzhou noodles, sat down, and thought I’d have a normal meal. Instead, I got a nightmare. When I poured vinegar onto my food, I noticed little white worms moving around. Maggots. In the vinegar bottle that everyone is supposed to use. That is beyond filthy, it’s straight up dangerous. Think about it — if they can’t even keep something as simple as vinegar clean, what do you think the kitchen looks like? What kind of rotten, dirty environment produces maggots in a condiment? This is not a mistake, this is pure negligence. And the worst part? The staff acted like it was no big deal. No apology, no concern, just blank faces like this happens all the time. Absolutely shameful. I don’t care how hungry you are, do not step into this dump. The hygiene here is nonexistent, the food is unsafe, and the management clearly doesn’t give a damn about their customers’ health. Honestly, places like this should be shut down by the health department immediately. Eating here isn’t just gross, it’s a health risk. Avoid this restaurant...
Read moreI’ve had my fair share of Chinese food, but this place is something special. The flavors are unlike anything I’ve ever tasted—it’s not your typical takeout joint. I tried their chow mein, and it was absolutely incredible. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the dish had a unique flavor profile that stood out from the usual. I also gave the Dan Dan noodles a go, which were fantastic but very spicy! If you love a good kick, they’re a must-try, though I’d recommend keeping a drink nearby.
What really blew me away was their selection of noodles. They offer several different shapes, and one of them is even triangular! It was such a fun touch. And what makes it even more amazing is that they make the noodles in-house right in front of you. Watching them prepare the noodles fresh was such an interesting experience—it’s not something you see every day.
The service here was also top-notch. If you’re looking for a Chinese food experience that’s far from the ordinary, this place is definitely worth checking out. The flavors, the noodles, and the service all make it stand out. I’ll definitely be...
