I am a huge fan of pastries, and I love good donuts and pastries in general. I didn't realize there was a donut shop, "Tasty Donut & Cafe (TDC)", aside from Magee's Donuts, Winchell's Donut House, and lately, the Voodoo Doughnut on Melrose near my place. Their donuts are tasty, and their specialty donuts are my favorites. Unfortunately, their customer service is unsatisfactory, and I will not be returning after today.
I stopped by TDC on my way home early Thursday morning, around 4:30 am, because I was craving their chocolate donut with the chocolate crunch balls on top. An old asian man was the only one working there at the time. I asked for the "chocolate donut with the chocolate dots on top and a raisin pastry." He seemed like he didn't know which donuts I was referring to at first, but quickly nodded as if he did. He went inside the baking room and came back with a pink half-dozen donut box and what looked like a cream cheese muffin (I had asked for a raisin muffin). I told him that's not what I have asked for, but I decided to keep it. I paid for the donuts, gave him a 20% tip, and walked to my car. When I got to my car, I looked inside the box and found out he had given me the plain chocolate donuts. I walked back to the store, and to my surprise, he would not accept the donuts back or give me a refund.
I came back to the same donut shop later that morning to see if I could reason with another person who works there. I brought the donuts from earlier this morning with me and talked to a different person. I explained to him that his dad, who spoke very little English, had given me the wrong donuts and pointed out to him the donuts I wanted. To my surprise, he also would not exchange the three donuts I didn't want for the ones I did like. I had to purchase them. I paid for the additional donuts (no tip this time), and I told him he could keep the donuts (I had already paid for) that I had brought back from earlier this morning. I didn't give them a tip this time. I spent a total of about $17 and received three donuts. I should've gone to Voodoo Doughnut this...
Read moreI’m at a loss for words right now. I have been to this business numerous times, and it was a good experience, however, tonight I was parked infront of their business with my car on, taking an urgent phone call and the owner bangs on my side window yelling at me to move because there was apparently gas going into his building. Of course I would absolutely never purposefully do that, and moved immediately, however, banging on my window and yelling at me is bordering harassment. Especially as a woman at night this was a genuinely terrifying experience. He banged so loud I unintentionally screamed. This situation is so incredibly disappointing because I really enjoyed this small business before, however, that behavior is so beyond unacceptable. Had I been asked with respect and not explosive anger to move my car, there would...
Read moreCame here after a night of debauchery in the area. I think I bookmarked it only because it has a great rating, but overall it did not live up to its (current) 4.5-star rating.
Walking in, it was a rather small place, which is actually fairly normal for donut shops. What killed it, though, was a kind of monotony of the donuts. The variety wasn't there; there was no flair, nothing that stood out! Same old same old glazed, twists, sprinkles, chocolate covered, etc.
I ended up getting two glazed, a twist, a raspberry jelly, a glazed cake, and crumble bear claw.
Final verdict - passable
But I'll give it two stars because the man behind the counter was really nice! He gave me 5 regular and the bear claw for the price of half dozen, $5! Maybe it was just...
