I ordered the Croque monsieur with tots and a slice of chocolate cake. And my husband got a bar-b-que sandwich with tots and corn chicken soup.

My husband’s order came out perfect, but even though we both ordered tots, I got a huge helping of fries instead. I saw the mistake immediately, but didn’t think it was worth sending my food back. We were on a tight schedule. And mistakes happen.

But I was about 3/4ths of the way into finishing my sandwich when my husband asked if my meal was alright, and I realized they forgot to serve the jam that was supposed to accompany my Croque monsieur. I knew something was missing but until he asked, I hadn’t stopped to take a hard look at what made my meal taste kind of 2-dimensional as opposed to one that is supposed to have layers of flavor built into it.

I’m sure they would have fixed their mistake if I would have said something. By that time, I had just a nub of sandwich left and we just didn’t have time to flag down someone to go fetch jam for my last two bites of sandwich.

The staff all seemed friendly enough, but their attention was really paid towards my husband as opposed to us both being on equal footing as customers. Maybe that’s why he had no issues with his order and I did. I guess one could forgive the faux pas because it is a common one almost everywhere you go. But I’m not here to be an apologist for the business. I’m strictly here relating what my experience was as a pseudo-mystery diner/food critic. Because that’s what Google restaraunt reviewers are basically.

The chocolate cake was probably a very good cake. But they keep their desserts presliced in a refrigerated case, and the edges of the cake and icing were dried out. We were there at around 2PM, so maybe if we came earlier around breakfast time, the cake would have been fresher. I don’t know. And the corn chicken soup was tasty.

It’s an alright place to...

Where do I begin? Now I know the meaning of John Denver’s line…almost heaven! Charlotte’s might be the best place I have ever put a fork in my mouth. The biscuits and apple butter is like nothing I have ever had! Is it breakfast, is it dessert…who cares! The eggs are cooked exactly the way you order them; the gingerbread latte made with real, freshly grated nutmeg tastes like Christmas in a mug; and the sausage and gravy…just stop! I kept taking a bite off of my friend’s dish just to see if I was mistaken, making up the gloriousness of the textures and flavors in my head. No! It was real and amazing every time.

Full disclosure, my two friends and I were visiting from Miami and VA and hit the natural springs just before our first stop into Charlotte’s magical cafe, and although we were completely amazed with the food then, we thought it may have been the mystical waters of the springs that made us a little delulu. That’s why we went back a second time. We had to check ourselves and the collective memory of happiness and joy we had of this place. The second visit was even better than the first! We each ordered something different and new…we were going to perform our due diligence. The eggs Benedict on croissants, the biscuit floating atop a pillowy yet creamy pond of sausage gravy, and the potato pancake special…each one dreamy and delicious in its own right.

After smoking an imaginary after-sex cigarette (that’s what it felt like), we went to pay and met Charlotte herself. She proceeded to tell us how her grandmother was also Charlotte and taught her how to bake and cook. After attending culinary school in Charlotte, she opened her cafe. Thank you to both Charlottes…hell, to all the Charlottes involved! This place is a must-stop location! Do not miss out on some real magic still left...

This place is packed so I thought it meant good food. I got chipped beef gravy and it had tiny pcs of chipped beef and the gravy was horrible it was like a Creamy thick PASTE Just not even edible and at room temp. I told staff and she was very nice and ask if I like something else I said no. At the end I was Not charged for the Chipped beef gravy.

They have a small Menu with extremely high prices for being in a poor town. I will say my friend got the bowl of chili it was in a xlarge bowl, I Never seen a bowl that size I think it was $10+ Neighboring Restaurant sell a bowl of soup for $3.50 and bowl of chili $4.50 so this was way over priced and most of the menu was over priced. Now we both got a coke n glass was full of ice and the coke was flat. I did see two liters bottles of coke being used that would answer why it was flat. Staff was extremely nice n did her best. Now seating is very little but I was comfortable. For me n my friend it was definitely Over Priced, for only getting 2 drinks and a bowl of chilli. We decided that we won't be returning. Food should not be room temperature first of all and the pricing is to high for regular everyday food. This is not gourmet food. The reason I decided to try it out was cars are packed all the time so that says it must be doing something right. Maybe it was just an off day.

NOTE :Please have several options affordable n it would be nice to have a regular size bowl of soup around $5 . I mean the food is not gourmet Anyway everyone was very nice and seating is nice. A little work on pricing and Food prep and it might be a nice place to eat . As I said they are really busy and that's good sign of great food n price. Sorry but I...

Starting off, service was friendly and welcoming. The menu items are unique and fun and they offer breakfast all day. The Fruity Pebble French toast was great and had crispy edges, while the banana bread French toast was gooey and just melted in your mouth. The chocolate peanut butter pancakes were loaded with chocolate chips and topped with plenty of whipped cream. My only complaint was that the peanut butter seemed to be skimped on, especially in comparison to the chocolate. The chicken was fried to perfection and was juicy. The latter also applies to the sausage, which was not dry by any means either. The tots were crispy and not overly oily. I recommend you get the BBQ sauce for dipping because it's made from apple butter. I don't think I've ever had anything like it and it was so good. I'm a sucker for some homemade desserts (which they also offer), so I had to pick up some for the ride home. I got the caramel latte donut and the Reese's cookie. I recommend both, but the donut was definitely the star of the two being as it was absolutely stuffed with filling. Great stuff all around!

We stopped in for a Saturday morning breakfast around 930, had to wait just a minute or two for a table to clear, I think we had just missed the morning rush. Definitely get some pastries, the peach cobbler coffee cake stole the show, the cinnamon roll was also delicious. I had the special which was a Korean Bbq eggs benedict. I don't really know how to say this, in that it was a very tasty dish, but not something I'd rush back for. My wife got one of the breakfast bowls which was a big portion and very good. My daughter had chicken strips and onion rings, which looked average to me. The wait staff was friendly and really hustle. They also have some fun breakfast (or lunch) cocktails. The apple cider margarita was tasty. This has a very homey/family run feel and feels genuine, and they're doing good food. We'd definitely stop in again.
