Although the location is beautiful and the food was above sub par I ordered the bison ribeye which is a fairly pricy cut of meat all things considered. The ribeye was under cooked I asked for medium rare and was given a much closer to rare piece of meat I wish I had pictures unfortunately I do not and based on the amazing reviews on this place I’m sure the food was a total accident and I might have just received a poor cut. On the other hand my family’s server was very incompetent and disrespectful. When arriving we were greeted at the door and where sat quickly but things got worse pretty quickly. It took him 8 min to get 5 people water then when asked if he could also grab a coke since he never got our drink order it took an additional 7 min then our order was taken and during this time my whole table ran out of drinks and we where ignored by our server numerous times not to mention he seemed to be in a position of power that he took insane advantage of we saw our server maybe 2 times during stay when we got drinks and when we got out check. I had to go grab my own water and soda pitcher from the bar and the bartender was very understanding and kind but does not change my overall poor experience with someone who was clearly in a management position taking advantage of his power and position to slack off and not tend to his tables. I hope for all others that choose to take stop at this aesthetically pleasing restaurant that your experience is far superior to mine it really would not have been as bad if I wasn’t coming to it from out of state with high expectations thank you to all the staff that was kind caring and helpful....

If you do not allow under 21 to sit at the bar. You should post a sign saying so! It's not against Montana state law. Do not leave it up to the bar maid who said not at her bar! Just wanted to watch the game up close with my 20 year old son. In town for work. Been here several times before and it was not an issue to sit at the bar. I think I will start going somewhere else. Customer lost over employee's smart attitude. All previous visits where great.

#This is my response to Hanks. If that is your policy that's fine. Just explain to the customer that is Bar policy. Post a sign. Don't be rude to us for not knowing your invisible policy. We did not argue. I just said I don't understand "we sat at the bar a few days ago". Two nights before and previous times. We where told "No you didn't, not at my bar". It was a rude response to trying to clarify some confusion. We where eating dinner. Not drinking.

Also our crew of 5 guys have sat at this Bar and many others with 2 crew members aged 20 years old. We have been staying in town on and off over the last two years for work. Staying in Motels we eat every meal out. I don't think it's fair to name the places that have let us sit at the Bar. But I will say they are some of the few places that are open year round. Most of them use an animal reference ...

My fiancé and I had an amazing first experience at Hank’s when we arrived to Yellowstone on a busy Friday night. There was great live music and despite it being busy and loud, our server made extra effort to get our orders right. After a particularly difficult travel day full of delays, it was a wonderful start to our Yellowstone experience and we left very happy.

Wanting to repeat that experience before we left, we visited Hank’s again on (a still busy, but not as much as last time) a Monday night and had some of the worst service we ever experienced anywhere. The younger server chatted extensively with the other tables, got our order wrong, failed to mention something was extra cost, and even slapped down the bill onto the table (with a “whenever you’re ready” but it sure didn’t feel like it, especially when she later took our ketchup away when my fiancé was clearly still working on his fries) when we still had half our food left.

After reading some of the other reviews, I see other people reporting the service is spotty, so I guess it depends on who you get. Since we’re from out of town, we didn’t know about the high prices but I felt our first time was worth everything we paid. The second, not so much.

The food was amazing both times, however. We particularly loved the elk and...

If you find yourself in West Yellowstone, make sure Hank's Chop Shop Bar and Grill is at the top of your list to visit! From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a welcoming and engaging staff who are genuinely attentive and eager to make your experience memorable. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between rustic charm and modern comfort. With more TVs than you’ll ever need to catch your favorite sports game, the place is perfect for sports enthusiasts. For those looking for unique decor, there’s an impressive older truck parked outside, complete with a carved Yeti for that distinct touch of Montana flair. Now, let’s talk about the food and drinks. Their Elk burger was simply top-notch, perfectly cooked, and loaded with flavor. They also use a wood grill for their pizzas, ensuring a smoky, delicious crust that stands out. Pair your meal with a wide selection of drinks—whether you're a beer lover or prefer something stronger, you won’t be disappointed by their well-stocked bar. Hank’s isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience. Whether you’re coming for the food, the ambiance, or a casual conversation with the friendly staff, this place delivers on all fronts. It’s a must-visit when in West Yellowstone!

Tried going during the weekend they had 35min to an hour wait. Went on Monday. We were seated within 15 minutes as a party of two with a kid in a car seat. They were kind enough to put us in a booth. The waiter was nice. The appetizer came out fairly quickly. Everything was hot and fresh. They were playing a football game on at least four TVs. The ambience was a combination of a sports bar mixed with a Cabela's taxidermy display. Lots of interesting things to look at. They had a billiards table. Not sure how getting in line to play worked. They also had one of those nifty Montana casinos where it's all electronic card games. Overall I was pretty happy with my experience. I'm putting 4 out of 5 stars for one thing. The restaurant charges 3.5% for using credit card to pay. They're right outside of a national park, the majority of people coming to eat at this restaurant are going to use a credit card. I never saw a sign anywhere except at the very bottom of the menu. Obviously, most people once they sit down to eat, they're not going to leave the establishment because of a credit card fee. But it kind of feels sneaky. Also the bathrooms were nice.

Was sadly disappointed over all. Our server was not at all knowledgeable about the menu- we would ask questions about drinks and food and he would say they had something and then return with something completely different, I had asked if I could order a Moscow mule which he said “of course” I explained I would do Tito’s vodka. He brought back the drink and one taste I had asked him what it was because it did not taste like a Moscow mule.. he proceeded to tell me it was their Montana mule and that it contained “black velvet”? which is not what I had ordered so I politely asked if I could have what I ordered. He brought another drink which was wonderful but then proceeded to charge me for BOTH drinks when it was his mistake to begin with? My husband and I both ordered the hamburger the taste was decent however the bottom bun was completely soggy when it came out which we came to learn was grease because EVERY bite we took grease came shooting out of the burger. We were very hungry after a long travel day and I would say Hanks left much to be desired drink wise, service wise, and food wise.. pictured below ls the pool of grease from said burger.
