Not the best bbq place, but… definitely not the worst. I’ll list the factors that make me say that.
Price: Way too steep for what you get. $38 for half-rack of ribs and two small sides (and a slice of bread)? Even if it all tasted amazing I think that’s too much.
Food: The dry rub on the ribs wasn’t very enjoyable for texture or flavor and the meat itself was fairly bland. The BBQ sauce that came with it helped and I really liked it a lot. My sides were potato salad and baked grits. The potato salad wasn’t what I expected— it had a very strong, unique dill kind of flavor. Not inedible, just not what I expected. The potatoes and everything in it were great, it was just overwhelmed with dill. The grits… Again, not bad flavor, but this one is on me, I’ve never had grits so the texture threw me off. Grainy, not my favorite.
*Also a note about the menu: The meat options are great but the sides… not so much. If they had fries instead of chips that would go a long way for me personally, and maybe some options for people who don’t want something too different, like apple-sauce, Mac-and-cheese, or a macaroni salad.
Atmosphere: Great! Loved the local, mountain-country feel of the place. A little small, but fun. The only thing I didn’t care for was the plastic cutlery and metal trays. I get that trays especially might convey a certain bbq restaurant look, but it always feels cheap.
Servers: Maybe a little slow when we sat down but pretty attentive and helpful, no bad attitudes or anything. I did get the wrong receipt initially but that stuff happens.
Overall I would hesitate to recommend the place, as much as I would like to. I’m giving it 3 stars because it’s definitely not a terrible experience, and I think a lot of folks will really enjoy it, I’m just particular about food (my wife can attest to that)! I was most disappointed with the price, because I figured that something that expensive surely would be worth it. I understand meat prices have risen a lot recently but it just wasn’t what I consider worth my money. (For the record my wife got the brisket and that tasted great, and they were generous with the amount.) I left the restaurant thinking that the best part of the experience was the Coke I had to drink, and as someone who loves a good meal, I wish I could give this...
Read moreIf you are from a big city and you know "good food" this place will make you happy. Actually, I was blown away by the superb quality of the food served here and the service. The waitress is the owner of the place and she is sharp, fast and on point (all other places I visited in WY and MT the service was so slow/mediocre compared to the west coast, not here though).
I had a pork sandwich and my partner had the beef brisket sandwich. Both meats were cooked perfect, they were warm, juicy and flavorful. The bun bread fresh and crispy on the outside. To be honest I have eaten at several dozen Michelin starred places and this food here is real good, I'm not kidding you.
The potato salad blew me away, this is a real potato salad. It had celery, and other vegetables chopped in, with small amounts of different herbs for a layered flavor. I mean for all I know my grandma made that potato salad, it had such a home made feel to it. I loved this place in a homey kind of way. Wish I had a place like this in LA near my house.
Thank you to the waitress and the cook who gave us the best meal of the month on a 12 day trip to the...
Read moreI almost never leave bad reviews, but I’m hoping I can save someone from spending their money and time here. The staff was nice and trying hard, but we waited an hour for our takeout order, checked in to see why we hadn’t gotten our food yet, finally got two cold sandwiches that had clearly been sitting around for a while. (Not to mention the BBQ sauce was missing entirely!) We asked nicely if we could get new sandwiches and they were very apologetic and quickly got us fresh ones, which we appreciated. Unfortunately the meat was extremely dry and the sides were bland. I’m easy to please, but this was unusually bad food. It was frustrating to spend money on disappointing food, but even more disappointing was the fact that this lengthy 1.5 hour ordeal cost us our last evening in the park.
Again, the staff were nice people and I feel guilty leaving a bad review. I hope the owners are willing to take constructive criticism and start holding the restaurant to a higher standard instead of taking advantage of the fact that they’re feeding hungry tourists and don’t have to worry about earning...
