Stopped in to West Yellowstone on a spur-of-the-moment trip to celebrate my 40th with the wife and two dogs. We found great accommodations in Teton, and were hoping to do the same in town here. Unfortunately, nothing below $250-$350 a night was available that was pet friendly. After searching, we found this place had a room available, and decided we'd give it a shot.
Well, it had a few positives. Let's get those out of the way first: *It was an available room. *Pet Friendly. *Cost wasn't outrageous at $80 for the night.
That was about it.
From there, things weren't all that great: *Office smells of cat urine so bad as to make one catch one's breath. *Key to our room didn't work at all, forcing us to keep everything in the car. *Room was rather dirty, and we were afraid to walk on the carpet without shoes. *Room smelled very strongly of stale cigarettes and cheap air freshener. *No soap, shampoo or conditioner in the bath. *Shower so dirty we were afraid to use it. *Light so dim it was actually hard to see. *No air conditioner, or fan of any kind. *Flatscreen TV - but with only about 7 channels of which most seemed to be HSN and infomercials. *WIFI available in theory, but so mind numbingly slow that it was useless. *We even had someone walk into our room off the street - who obviously did not belong there. Thankfully, the two dogs were with us, and voiced their disapproval - which sent this unwelcome stranger on his way quickly enough.
Perhaps the highlight, was a chance to talk with several of the bikers out front, who were every one extremely pleasant and friendly. All in all, I suppose in that town, we were lucky to have any room at all at that rate with pets. Although, were we to do it all over again, I would strongly consider just sleeping in the...
Read moreIf you’re looking to come to Yellowstone and spend all day in your room watching TV and ordering room service, go somewhere else (and also look hard at your life decisions, stay home if you want to spend time indoors). The rooms are clean and neat, yes they’re dated, but who cares? It’s a place to sleep and shower. I found the woman at the desk funny, helpful and honest. She told me she’d had a recent fall and was obviously struggling with pain and mobility but she wasn’t grumpy or rude as described in other reviews. The room rate (I paid $100 for the night) was great. I got quoted $300 for the super 8 way out of town. The Ho Hum is in town, walking distance to restaurants and supermarkets, close to park entrance, etc. It wouldn’t work for a romantic weekend, it’s not for everyone, but you’re also paying $100 per night. People complaining in the reviews that it’s not a Hilton need to check prices of the Holiday Inn or the Best Western (which I can see from my window at the Ho Hum) then realise that you’re not comparing equals. It’s a small, dated, local hotel offering reasonably priced accommodation in a town that charges, on average, 3 to 5 times more just because of where they are, not because they offer great service/rooms. Ho Hum is fit for purpose, any other criticism is...
Read moreI didn’t even stay here, we came from out of town and our dog had to have emergency surgery right before we left so we had to bring her with us. While waiting to eat, we were looking for a place for our dog to go to the restroom. The lady at the front desk came out while we were just standing on the grass asking us to leave. We couldn’t fully hear her so my brother asked her again what she said, she then proceeded to say “you heard me, take your dog in the back there’s plenty of room.” I then said, “We are just looking for some grass for our dog.” Then again she said in a harsher tone to leave. Our dog is not used to peeing in dirt, so we were just trying to find a place for her to relieve herself that’s comfortable for her. Shame on this place for not being welcoming. We are grown adults and would clean up after our dog, if they don’t welcome dogs then kindly say we don’t allow dogs and recommend some other places besides the dirt. I wouldn’t even recommend this place if someone was asking for help. All I have to say is put a smile on your face and if you don’t like dealing with people then don’t work for a place that deals with customers 24/7 to make not only there stay better, but also for people around your space to...
