Burnt 90s style beans of indeterminate age!
I so want to like this place because it’s local and I’ve moved back to my hometown after being away for 14 years, but I can’t recommend it at all, especially if you have any expectations for a Third-wave coffee experience.
It seems okay at first sight: the many jars of beans and the map look fun! But the shortcomings of the beans appear when you scratch the surface and are obvious when you take the coffee home. The first red flag was no indication or knowledge of the roast dates for the beans. Another was that there was only one light roast despite a long menu: seemed a peculiar choice to me.
Anyway, despite them saying all their beans are medium roast, these are by contemporary standards dark bordering on burnt. Note how oily the beans always are: oily beans mean that they have been roasted well into second crack, meaning sugars have stopped caramelizing and the woody structures of the beans have burned. You’re probably not getting origin flavor, and you’re getting flavors that are anything but bright, floral, etc.
If you think Starbucks serves really good coffee, you’ll be fine with this place. But if you make your own espressos, pour overs, and care about that level of coffee making, look elsewhere for your...
Read moreThis is not meant to be your common coffee house where you grab a coffee, sit down and work on your laptop for the day. This is a small shop dedicated to offering high quality coffee beans to the local community and for those interested in stopping in and grabbing a quick coffee to go. To this end, Ahrre's does a great job, has friendly service and also offers a range of coffee brewing equipment for personal use. I'm not educated enough to know if this is an efficient way to store roasted coffee beans, but it certainly seemed unique to have an entire wall full of large glass jars housing the beans in bulk from which I assume to-go bags are filled to order. It's worth noting that the selection is vast and on the high end today they were offering Jamaican Blue Mountain beans, which I've never had and hear are some of the best in the world. Right now I'm drinking a delicious single origin Colombian light roast drip that was available at a very...
Read moreAhre’s Coffee Shop is truly a gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by some of the friendliest and most welcoming people you’ll ever meet. The service is warm, attentive, and makes you feel like family.
But what really sets Ahre’s apart is the coffee. Without exaggeration, it’s some of the best I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Every cup is rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced — you can tell they put real passion into every roast and every pour.
And it’s not just a great coffee shop — it’s a staple in the community. Ahre’s is the kind of place where people gather, connect, and become friends. It’s more than just coffee; it’s about the people, the atmosphere, and the sense of belonging.
Great people, great service, and world-class coffee — Ahre’s Coffee Shop is the kind of place you’ll find yourself coming back to...
