On a Thursday afternoon I stopped by and?asked if ribs were available. The lady said no but maybe Friday. She checked and verified that Friday about. 1:30 there would be ribs. On Friday about 2 I called ahead and ordered a rack of ribs and some coleslaw. They said It would be 15 minutes. I waited 20 minutes. I had to go outside the building to their order pickup window because they don't allow anyone inside. It was raining. No one was at the window. It was early afternoon and they had only 2 customers sitting in their tent outside. I waited in the rain for several minutes then finally yelled to get their attention as I could see employees walking back and forth and talking. Finally someone came and I asked for my order. The waitperson looked a bit puzzled and asked another employee about my order. They asked me to wait a few minutes. So I moved under the cover of the tent while I waited. The wind was blowing and I had gotten wet while waiting at the window. After several minutes a different employee told me I would have to wait another 20 minutes and would I please move my car as it was blocking the path for an employee who wanted to go home. The ribs were already cooked by 1:30 according to their staff on Thursday. The coleslaw had certainly been made ahead of time. No explanation was offered. Eventually I got my order and went straight home. Upon tasting the ribs we found them to be undercooked, tough and dry. I had requested extra sauce. We were given 3 very small containers of sauce (the size used for dressings). We had looked forward to this meal as a birthday celebration. We were very disappointed The next day I called and asked to speak to the manager. I was told she was not there. I asked how to contact either the manager or the owner. I was told they were one and the same. I asked when she would be there and was told they did not know; maybe next Tuesday. I asked if I could have a phone number or email address for the management. I was told none was available. I asked if I could leave my name and number and have the management call me. I was told no again. It was suggested that I just call later and see if they were in. I considered it important to let the management know about the poor service as well as the under par food. I did not want to post a negative comment without trying to contact them. Nevertheless I feel forced to do just that . I know they receive many favorable reviews. I have eaten here about a year ago and the meat was very good. I hope this is...
Read moreThis was my mother's favorite place to order margaritas and calamari on the Washington coast, until our experience today. I was totally ok that they didnt have calamari. A lil bummed but apparently its impossible to get right now, they tell us. Ok no calamari. The server recommended we try the pickle o's. So we ordered 2 margaritas and the pickle o's. My mom had been raving about their margaritas and I was excited to finally be able to try one. While ordering, my mom specifically asked for the muddled margaritas. The two employees were arguing over who should make our drinks, the women behind the bar area told the other women she should make them. The other women said, "no, its easier for you to make them." Then, "I'll just give you everything to make them with and you can muddle them."
As were waiting for our order, the server comes to us, in the outside eating area, and apologizes to us because they do not have the pickle o's that she recommended available at that time. She tells us that she'll give us our appetizer free. Thing is, we had already paid, she never did end up giving us a free app. We opted for the fish tacos, which did cost more then what we originally paid for, but without reimbursing us, it wasn't actually free like she had said.
Really, we were there for their margaritas anyway. But, they were the worst margaritas we've ever had, and we know margaritas. First, they weren't muddled at all. It tasted as if i was drinking cheap tequila (we specifically asked for Patron). 2nd, they were Very tart and harsh tasting, like they were made with lime peelings. No other fruit juices added at all. Very sloppily thrown together.
Then the fish tacos show up. They were very dark in color, as if the oil used to fry them in was long over due for a changing. The fish was also a bit dry and overcooked as well.
This was my first visit, i wish we didn't stop there at all. My mother was very disappointed. She says she will try it one more time (next time she's in Westport), and hope someone who knows what they're doing is actually working and can make her the margarita shes always been served in the past, otherwise she will never go back.
My mother was most disappointed, as she has been raving about this...
Read moreDefinitely not something that you expect to find when you drive into Westport, WA. But then... it's also very Washington Coast at the same time.
I live in the state just below this one... ya know, the one with the spectacular coastline and amazing highway that runs it's length. I love my headwarmer state, Washington... it's beautiful... but the majority of the coast and nearly all of Highway 101 is outside of everything that you would expect from such a beautiful state. It's rough and gritty. It's a throwback to an era when cannerys gave ne'er-do-gooders a place to hide and earn enough scratch to buy a pistol. It's a place drenched in untold history more so even than rain. It's beautiful in a way that those that would vacation in Cannon Beach would be terrified of. It's got charm in the same way that the 55 year old ladies with uneven highlights and loose teeth that reside in these parts have charm. Seattle doesn't come to Westport, WA... well, they do. But they walk around with a bewildered look on their faces wondering where the arcade is. How are they supposed to ignore their children this weekend without a god damn arcade?!
Aloha Alabama BBQ and Bakery is an anomoly in this town of deliciously rough bars and cafe's barely holding on between smoke breaks. It's odd, but also good. It's a welcome hug from a safe partner who you loved so many years ago. It's barbecue.. it's ribs... it's pulled pork... it's cole slaw and baked beans. They don't try to add a coastal touch.. they just do what they do and they do it pretty damn well. Our server/bartender... she was amazing. Her mischievous smile made you wonder what she knew... what was the joke that we weren't in on. She was attentive and poured a fine drink. The food was great... I was satisfied and surprised. I felt happy when I was done eating. I couldn't wait to get to one of the less manicured bars though... to use the foundation that I had built with ribs to get me through a night of heavy drinking with those...
