Boombalatti's Handcrafted Ice Cream — Restaurant in Wilmington

Found this online while visiting the beach. It had so many great reviews and looked yummy. We also like to support local as much as we can. The staff was very friendly and it was a nice environment as well as reasonable prices. They also offered many flavors as well as add ons…HOWEVER the ice cream flavors were very bland. Between my husband and I we tried 4 flavors. Chocolate fudge brownie, chocolate chip cookie dough, double cookies and cream and the salted peanut butter fudge. You could hardly differentiate between the flavors. We both decided to give it the benefit of doubt, get some and dress it up with some add ons. We thought “maybe since we only tried a small bite there would be more flavor.” I got the chocolate fudge brownie which only had 1 small brownie piece in it and my husband got the salted peanut butter fudge. Our minds did not change. The ice cream still fell very flat and was very bland…I didn’t even finish mine and I always finish my ice cream. Sadly this ice cream is nothing special.

If you see a long line here, trust a local when I say it's worth the wait. (Just remember to pack your patience - especially in the summer.) Ice cream is made fresh in-house with local ingredients. You will leave the place smelling like waffle cones. There is a huge variety of flavors for vegans and non-vegans alike. They also sell to go pints. (If you don't see the flavor you want in the freezer, just ask the staff for whatever flavor you want in a to go pint.) You can sample as many flavors as you want before making a decision, and the portion sizes are more than generous; even the kid's size is huge, IMO. The staff is always friendly and accommodating so please don't be rude to them. (Why one would cop a 'tude in an ice cream shop is beyond me, but I've seen it from tourists.) This is a small family owned shop with 3 local locations and you can't go wrong visiting any of them! (Especially downtown - please choose Boom over KW's. My girlfriend and I stopped here (Hampstead location) last night to get an ice cream on our way home. We both have received the Moderna vaccines (both doses) and had our cards with us. For anyone who’s curious, you do not have to carry those on you unless you’re flying from my understanding. We just happened to have ours in our truck. When we entered the lady asked us to put masks on. I offered to show proof we were vaccinated and she responded with “I’m sorry but we still require you to wear a mask. It’s just something we do for our business.” Keep in mind this only applies from the front door to the counter to your table since they are open for indoor dining. We would be sitting in the same building as them breathing the same air as we eat our ice cream. We didn’t argue with her. Instead, we walked out.
