Rooted AF. (At Chancery Market) — Restaurant in Wilmington

Best vegan in Wilmington! I came across Rooted AF first at shoprite near the riverfront. The owner (I believe) had a stand there and was handing out fresh vegan empanadas hot out the deep fryer. Naturally, I ran over to try one and that truly was a mistake because ever since that day those empanadas have been on my mind. Throw out every idea you might have on what a vegan empanada tastes like…you’re wrong. This thing packs flavor and indulgence like you would not believe. So I bought a pack of the frozen ones from Shoprite (ate them both in one evening) and then finally made my way to The Chancery Market where Rooted AF has a vendor space. I ordered The Pinky Cole, named after the now famous vegan entree. BABY…hear me when I say - I took a bite just to sample it and figured I’d save the rest for movie night at home. Wrong. Thank goodness the cook chopped that sandwich in two because one half of it never made it out the car. Another mistake of mine because now I can’t stop thinking about that sandwich. The flavor and juiciness of a Philly cheesesteak was not at all compromised in the making of this jawn. I couldn’t even take a picture…who had time? It was devoured. I can absolutely see Rooted AF becoming the next big thing and I’m so so grateful we get to have it here in Wilmington. Go try this place out before it blows...

I was in town from Philly for a work gig and excited to have a place to try for vegan food that I hadn't been to before. I have to say -- I will officially be back and will happily drive the hour there to experience such amazing food (not to mention customer service) again.

I can't remember the names of what I got, but I ordered the beef empanadas, the crispy chicken wrap, burro fries, a strawberry crunch cake and a drink. Now lemme tell you about this drink... Hibiscus with rose and black pepper -- omgggg it was exactly what I needed before a night of singing!

The wrap wasn't what I'm used to from other subpar places that just put all lettuce and some pale tomatoes and dredge it with sauce... no, no, every bite of this had chicken and onions and fresh kale perfectly balanced with the right amount of sauce. It was exactly how a wrap should be!

The burro fries were perfectly crisp & tender and just seasoned enough to be zesty, and then that empanada!? Lordt.

I'm so grateful to have checked out this spot and blessed to have the unfortunate decision on my next visit of trying something else on the menu or sticking with what blew my mind already.
