I really wanted to love this place, but visit #2 and #3 were awful.

Background: We are new to the area and our local family brought us here in the spring as they said they had great donuts and biscuits and gravy. Visit #1 was awesome. Great donuts, great B&G. Overall a really nice experience.

Visit #2: We had friends visiting from out of town so we thought we'd drive up to Woodland Park and let them enjoy the views and the donuts. The views were great, the donuts were not great. There were seven of us in all and everyone who tried a fritter had the same reaction: "this tastes burnt." It seriously tasted like the oil it was fried in was burnt oil and that taste permeated the entire donut. I asked the young lady behind the counter if there was anything she could do and she said there was nothing wrong with the oil. Okay... we chalked that one up as a singular bad experience.

Visit #3: We had family visiting for Thanksgiving. Again, they had never been here so thought we'd offer them the Woodland Park views and the donuts. Unfortunately, our donuts were again really bad. There were nine of us in total and the two of us who ordered the bacon, maple fritters had literal uncooked dough on the inside of our fritters. Not even close to slightly undercooked, it was complete dough. Doughy enough that when I pulled the fritter apart, the dough stretched a good 12-inches, similar to when you pull a mozzarella stick apart. Again, I asked the young lady at the counter if there were any cooked a little more thoroughly and she said that was how they are always cooked and I shouldn't worry about salmonella ...which I thought was strange because I never mentioned getting sick, I just didn't want to eat uncooked dough because it tasted like uncooked dough.

So we've tried the Donut Mill three times and have had a really bad experience on 2 out of 3 visits. We will not be going back, which is sad because we loved driving to the town and stopping in for...

Where to begin. I went to The Donut Mill with three others this morning. It was the worst breakfast experience at a restaurant I've ever had. The supposed "best" biscuits and gravy were not good at all. The biscuits were not made fresh at the store and appeared to have come in a large plastic bag from somewhere off site. The gravy tasted like it was canned. It was at least warm? Coupled with a nearly ice cold biscuit it was totally unpalatable. I ate a few bites then threw the rest away. The donuts were nothing short of disgusting. Between the four of us we tried chocolate and cinnamon. They had to have been at least a day old. They were very, very dry. The chocolate was crusty and obviously old. The "cinnamon" donut contained little actual cinnamon and was drier than the Atacama desert. I am shocked this restaurant has such high reviews. I have to wonder if there was a recent ownership change or something. Totally disappointed as I took my parents here on their vacation and there are several good breakfast spots in town and I chose this place as I'd never been there. I suggest avoiding this place if you're looking for decent B&G's...

We were taking a group family trip and decided to stop and treat our kids and cousins to a donut. Love supporting small businesses, and we were excited to try it out. We went in to see HUGE delicious looking donuts. On the board it said a dozen for $12.95. We discussed it in front of the three workers, one which I assume was the owner. We secided to go ahead and get a dozen since it would have been nearly the same cost as each of us getting one, since there were 10 of us. The kids excitedly picked out their donuts. We went to ring up and they told us the cost was $36.05. ?!?! So naturally we questioned it! That's when they finally decided to tell us the donuts for $12.95 were only on the left side of the case. Really would have been nice for them to tell us that in the first place considering we were talking about it right in front of them, and even asking if we had gotten to the dozen yet. I suppose at that point we should have told them to put the donuts back, but we felt a little obligated considering the excitement from all of the kids. The donuts were good, but we won't be going back on principle. Definitely...

Okay the most important thing I need you to know is that this place does not sell bear claws. 🤣 Don't be like us and think you will receive an almond filled flaky pastry. The thing they call a bear claw is a giant donut shaped like a bear PAW. The bear paws count as two donuts, so we ordered a dozen but should have received 10 donuts. Are you mathing along?? We were initially disappointed that we only received 8 donuts. The very nice woman packed them up where we couldn't see. The bear PAWS were somehow both undercooked and stale. Even the kids wouldn't eat them. The maple was fine but not as strong of a maple flavor as most places. The chocolate with sprinkles were eaten and enjoyed by the kids in their entirety. So just... Manage your expectations. This is a cute place to satisfy a sweet tooth. The donut quality, at least on our visit, was below average. Check the box before you leave to verify you got what you asked for. Hopefully you will have a better experience.

I know this is a long time favorite, however I hate to tell you they have not aged well. We were visiting and had went to the dinosaur museum down the street. We decided to get the kids a sweet treat and some food too since they have both. The food we HORRIBLE, seemed like a microwaved breakfast sandwich for $6. The biscuits were doughy and the gravy thick. The place looks like no one maintains it. In the bathroom, which is dirty, there is a huge letter from a customer saying how great it is there, only issue is it was written in 1976, if I remember correctly....could be 77. The young lady at the counter was pleasant but seemed not to interested as did the "cook". The donuts are only slightly better. Everything is over priced for the quality, I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Donuts were ok. Nothing special in my opinion. I got there at 6am and donuts were cold, and had that feel to them like gas station donuts that hadn’t been sitting for hours. I’ve been to many donuts 🍩 places and places that make the donuts often have smells of deep or baked sweet bread. Some even warmer then normal due fryers and ovens on. This place smelled like there hadn’t been any baking going on for years. I was not impressed with there donuts or the price. I got dozen donut holes and one of there speciality donuts( again it was nothing more the a cream filled long john) and it cost me 8.25. I’ve noticed a few other fellow donut connoisseur to question the freshness of these donuts, who often have been hyped up by locals. I’m wondering if the Donut Mill is under new ownership.
