So far I have visited two different Mission BBQ locations, and Wyomissing is my favorite one yet. I give 4 out of 5 stars based on my own personal preferences. The atmosphere of the restaurant is by design, and I just don’t vibe to it. With that said I almost always get my food to go. I place my orders inside the restaurant so I can see my food when the staff presents it for visual inspection. It’s obvious they care about customer satisfaction. I once attended a wedding that was catered by the Wyomissing Mission BBQ and the food and service was fantastic! Lots of great tasting food that evening. I prefer the beef brisket sandwich with smoky mountain bbq sauce. The Mac and cheese is good. The cornbread is decent if I slather butter on it. I have sampled much of their menu at the wedding, however I tend to order the same thing every time I visit. The flavor, overall quality and texture of the beef brisket is pretty consistent. The portions I receive are sometimes smaller / bigger than before, but even so I never thought my portions were undersized. The staff aren’t supercharged with welcoming energy, but then again I don’t expect them to be. They are just regular people being honest, friendly, helpful and attentive. Mission BBQ does good with what matters in a BBQ joint. They are inspired by Deep South smoky bbq, but aren’t quite as good because Mission BBQ is a chain restaurant. They are expected to have everything meet a particular standard of consistency. Some people love it that way, and others wish for something more exciting. When I go to Mission BBQ I always get what I expect, no more and no less. I would like to see new styles of bbq sauce made available. As previously mentioned I am a big fan of the smoky mountain sauce. Unfortunately I cannot speak on the quality of their ribs because I haven’t tried them yet. I would enjoy sampling the ribs sometime in the near future, and...
Read moreI’m new to Pennsylvania, and originally from Georgia...where barbecue and hot wings are a staple food (lol). I was a bit hesitate on getting barbecue up North at first because it’s regionally more so prized upon their Italian cuisines but Mission Barbecue’s rating on Google sold me!
I got off work and called the restaurant where I was helped by an extremely polite and understanding staff member, she upsold me by recommending the chicken saying it was “extremely delicious”. I believe her name is Jhiani (YOU ARE AMAZING ✨✨✨). I ordered the half chicken and rack of babybacks, my car was filled with the familiar smell of smoked meat and I was all to eager to dive into some dinner.
I immediately went to my ribs once I settled in from work, and noticed an all too familiar taste ( reason I decided to give two stars ). These ribs are so loaded with celery salt and/or salt/old bay seasoning that I legitimately could not finish. My fiancé and I could only stand about 4 between the 2 of us out of 10 bones before the salt became unbearable. I was highly disappointed because the ribs come dry without any barbecue sauce and still taste over salted.
The smoked chicken wasn’t bad but it also didn’t stand out in flavor except the signature smoke flavor I expected, not overly seasoned and went well with the Memphis belle barbecue sauce which has a mustard like taste to it.
Food - ⭐️ ⭐️
Atmosphere - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Portions to prices - ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Jhiani - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, seriously she was phenomenal with her guest service.
I’m going to revisit and I hope that the salt decreases or maybe an option for lightly...
Read moreThis is a difficult review to write. I enjoyed the barbeque here for months as a quick carryout to take to work with me. The smoked burger and the brisket in particular were both very tasty and reasonably priced.
The atmosphere is unique And caters to military veterans. As someone without military service, none of this resonates with me, but I have no qualms about it.
The service is generally friendly and helpful. The management team tries to cater to the customer and fields questions and requests promptly.
All of this was fine until one day I ordered brisket, beans, and slaw to go, and that night I became violently ill with a severe case of food poisoning the likes of which I have only experienced one other time in my life. More than fifteen years ago I experienced something similar eating at a small Indian restaurant that has since gone out of business. And I am someone who eats out compulsively.
All night and all day the next day I spent in the bathroom puking my guts out. It was horrific. Again, with 35+ years of eating fast food, restaurants, and everything in between, only one other time have I experienced something like this. It's "rare air" to be in this category.
Now, I can't definitively claim that Mission BBQ caused this, but after eating cereal in the morning, and nothing but Mission BBQ later in the day, up until that awful night, there is a strong possibility the takeout food was involved.
I have since stopped eating here, and maybe no one else has had an issue eating here, but I want to sound a word of caution to everyone considering this place. Make of this...
