Really disappointed and upset after a disappointing experience here today (we have been coming here multiple times).
Today we wanted to order a masala dosa (which is labelled vegan on the menu!). Previously when I ordered, I used to say "can I have a vegan masala dosa" and the waiter would say "you don't need to say vegan because the masala dosa is only vegan, not vegetarian, there is no ghee in it". After that I used to order masala dosa without even saying vegan because of what the waiter said and because it is clearly marked vegan on the menu!
Today I said can I have vegan masala dosa and the waiter checks with chef, comes back and says the masala dosa is not vegan! Apparently sometimes they put ghee in the masala and sometimes not??? We were so shocked to hear this, as likely we have eaten ghee after being vegan for 10 years. Additionally, this is also worrying as it can impact people who are severely allergic to dairy! This is a huge health and safety concern. I cannot believe that an item that is labelled vegan, is sometimes vegan and sometimes not!
Super disappointing. To rectify this you must make it clear with chefs that all items labelled vegan does not contain animal products like ghee. I've also ordered the parotha sukka before which is labelled vegan, but unless you say 'vegan parotha sukka' it will come with yoghurt/raita. You must understand that if a dish is labelled vegan on the menu, vegans won't ask if it's vegan, it's your responsibility to make sure it is vegan. For example, if the parotha sukka can be vegetarian or vegan you must also have a vegetarian sign next to it, or waiters must ask do you want vegetarian or...

First impressions? Impeccably clean and tidy—yes, even the toilet sparkled! The staff, hailing from India, were fluent in English and ready to guide me through the menu. They suggested the Mini Thali—a delightful combo of rice, vada, veggies, and a mystery item that left my taste buds begging for more (though my memory might be a tad spicy-induced foggy!).
And let's talk dessert! I treated myself to a glass of cold badam milk—a heavenly fusion of creamy milk and cashew nuts that had me dreaming of Southern Indian streets.
Now, onto the bill. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side for lunch, but trust me—it's worth every penny. From the flavors bursting in every bite to the top-notch service and cozy ambiance, Southern Delights delivers an unforgettable culinary experience.

Read moreI visited for lunch today after discovering their Facebook advertisement about a special lunch buffet on January 1st, featuring South Indian delicacies. Initially, I was a bit skeptical, as authentic South Indian food outside of India can be hard to come by. However, to my pleasant surprise, the food was absolutely outstanding. Every dish was prepared with great attention to detail, and the taste was spot on—rich, flavorful, and reminiscent of true South Indian cuisine. What impressed me the most was the quality of the buffet. Often, buffets sacrifice taste for quantity, but that was not the case here. The dishes were as flavorful and well-prepared as any à la carte offering. The restaurant was quite crowded, and we had to share tables, which is understandable given the buffet setup, but the staff handled the high volume of guests with remarkable patience. They ensured that refills were quick and efficient, making sure there was no wait time for anyone. This experience has made Southern Delight my go-to place whenever I crave authentic South Indian...
