I’ve been seeing this famous Bánh Mì shop all over TikTok and Facebook reels, so when we arrived in Hanoi, we knew we had to check it out. It’s located right in the Old Quarter, and it’s hard to miss with the crowds of tourists and locals gathered outside. The place is simple, street-style, and has a very local vibe, don’t expect anything fancy in terms of seating or ambience, but that’s part of the charm.
What We Ordered:
*Crispy Pork Bánh Mì- Their signature sandwich and easily the highlight. The bread was light and crisp on the outside, soft inside, and filled with tender pork, pâté, pickled vegetables, herbs, and sauce. A really good balance of flavors and textures.
*Beef Bánh Mì Chảo- A flavorful option served with rich, seasoned beef and traditional toppings. Definitely worth trying if you want something a bit heartier.
*Coffee- We also tried their coffee, which was good, but quite similar to what you’ll find in most coffee shops around Hanoi. It pairs well with the sandwich, but nothing that stood out as unique.
Overall Experience: The food is undeniably good, and I can see why it’s popular. The staff are friendly and they ask how you’d like your sandwich prepared (spice level, veggies, sauces, etc.), which is a nice touch. However, since this spot has gone viral, it can get really busy, especially during peak hours, so be ready to wait in line.
That said, while I think it’s worth visiting at least once for the experience, I also believe Hanoi has plenty of other bánh mì spots that are just as good, without the hype. For example, Bánh Mì MAMA near Saint Joseph Cathedral serves incredibly flavorful sandwiches at a very affordable price, and the lines there are much shorter (depends on the time).
Final Verdict: If it’s your first time in Hanoi, this shop is definitely worth checking out at least once, both for the food and the experience of trying one of the city’s most famous bánh mì spots. But don’t stop here. Hanoi is full of amazing street food, and some lesser-known shops might surprise you even more in terms of...

Read moreWe first went to Vietnam 🇻🇳 13 years ago. At the time, IG was a baby 🍼 and eSIM was not a thing for consumers. There, we had to use public computers at hotels to access the Internet. Plus reviews in Maps did not exist yet. So basically, finding a place to eat and choosing what to order was a matter of luck (of course, no translators either at the time! 😱). 😅 What I knew about Vietnamese 🇻🇳 food was what I could find in Sino-Vietnamese restaurants in France 🇫🇷, which are super common. But in these restaurants, there are no Banh mi. I guess selling baguette sandwiches in the country of baguette 🥖 wouldn't work... 😅 So I must confess the first time I ever heard about Banh mi was watching Somebody Feeds Phil, 2 or 3 years ago. And no, I did not realize Banh mi was a thing in the 10 days I spent in Vietnam in '12. 🤷 Few meters from our hotel, there's a place called Banh Mi 25, which used to be a couple of tables in the street and is now made of 3 different venues on both sides of the street. They serve Banh Mi, of course. And the star on their menu is a destructured banh mi: a casserole with all the ingredients of banh mi + bread on the side. That's what I ordered of course. And it was great! 🤩 Probably heavier than the sando 🥪 but richer and more tasteful too. I loved the casserole but, surprisingly, I loved the bread too. Being French 🇫🇷 I'm quite picky with bread. To me that was not a baguette but that was still very good. 👍 The service was nice, a bit slow maybe, and the vibes were cozier than in most restaurants in Hanoi 🇻🇳. We each had a banh mi + a drink and we paid VND700K... €4 per person! 🥳
