After living in Japan for almost ten years and fifty subsequent trips back and forth I feel qualified to state emphatically that this IS authentic in its entirety, and that the food I had was of excellent quality. I’ve had better Japanese food of this sort but even in Japan I would have had no reason to complain.
I was equally impressed by the friendly staff I met. One young lady has worked here for five years, and the other for two years. Both remain enthusiastic, friendly and helpful. The environment, rustic and simple, is also entirely authentic. Made me feel as if I were back in a small neighborhood eatery in Japan.
Please consider ignoring the comments of any who would proclaim the restaurant inauthentic. I detest “faux” Japanese. As for the owner, I didn’t get to meet him but I’m assured he is the same friendly guy many reviewers have mentioned. He would have to be a pretty nice guy to retain such friendly, capable and helpful staff (two of whom speak pretty good English and some Japanese, as well). Absolutely...
Read moreWe are the types of people to never visit the same restaurant twice while on a vacation destination, instead opting to experience as many restaurants as possible. This was not possible with Samurai Kitchen, as it was too good not to go twice. We are still in Hoi An and may even go a third time. The food (and service) is fantastic. As someone who has been in Japan several times, this is basically as authentic as it gets. The flavors of the ramen broth, the Katsudon sauce, the curries, Gyoza, Oyakodon are EXACTLY what you would expect from a legit restaurant in Japan. I was super impressed and seriously recommend everyone who visits Hoi An and likes non-Sushi Japanese food to come here. You will not be...

Ordered the katsu Don- pork cutlet on rice and egg , the chicken ball Don, and the agedashi tofu. The tofu was really nice and I'd highly recommend it. The other two dishes, not so good. The meat was so tough in both and it was too salty. Im not sure what the chicken ball was referring to as we got strips from a chicken leg or thigh complete with chewy tendons You can see the colour of the dishes are pretty much yellow/ brown. Some garnish or colour would make alot of difference and make the dish a bit more healthy. It's quite a pretty restaurant but very...
