It's hard to find authentic Thai food in Vietnam and this is so far the best one I've tried. 4 years back when I last visited Hoi An, the previous owner/head chef was a Thai lady. I suspected she sold it since the food was clearly different and had lost its authenticity. I was right since the staff confirmed that she left Vietnam and is not owned by a Thai man who do not cook himself.
I ordered the same dishes as last time but something was different. The massaman curry was still good but they used sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes which would not happen in Thailand. Also the meat was dry and I remember 4 years ago they used beef cheek which was cooked until super tender. Now they don't use beef cheek anymore which is hard to understand from a culinary standpoint.
The laab was very good and they actually did make it quite spicy when I asked for it. Basically as spicy as you'd get in Thailand. The mango sticky rice however was not really authentic anymore since the sauce ( that you pour over ) was only sweet and didn't have any salty component which it must have in Thailand. We asked for salt however so we could mix it into the sauce.
The Tom Kha Gai was very good but you need to ask for extra lime to get the authentic taste Yam woosen ( vermicelli salad ) was great. The phad see ew was good, the phad Thai was good as well.
Still the best option for Thai food in...
Read moreThis a a great Thai restaurant and bizzare to find in Hoi An, but really happy it is as so many Vietnamese places are not that good. The food here is far superior to the many of the restaurants I ate at in Thailand last year. This is genuine Thai cooking by a first class Thai chef (NOTE chef not cook - ask about her pedigree) I have been here many times now and recommend the lunch special Thai chicken and rice 65,000 VND great value and especially the Beef Massaman curry, so delicious - the beef is slow cooked overnight and the beef just melts in your mouth, and a superb delicate multi-layered sauce. Shrimp and fish cakes spot on as is the Tom Ka Gai and Pad Thai...full of yum flavours. Try the mango and sticky rice to finish off. Great variety and genuine Thai cuisine. Also serves...
Read moreHave mixed sensations about this place.... My miss insisted hardly to go here as she lived in Thailand for a year so gave it a go.
Service was quick and efficient and place is beautiful.. however:
1- Portions were small and lacking of chicken compared to other cheaper local places.
2- They will charge you extra VAT without letting you know (nor it is written in the menu).. that's an UNPLEASANT surprise.. 10% for alcohol and 8 % for food ... Never ever in any place in Vietnam they've done this to us.... Hope the owner takes note of this and , at least, write this down in the menu.
Overall speaking -- Good and tasty food but lacking condiments & overpriced for what it is. Not worthy in my opinion.
Hint: escape from touristic areas and go...
