After a full day exploring Ba Na Hills, we made our way back down around 3:30 to 4 p.m.
It was a great experience, and to be honest, you can probably cover most of Ba Na Hills' main attractions before evening—unless you're visiting with young kids, then maybe you'd want to stay a bit longer for the family attractions.
Back in Da Nang, we decided to check out Vincom Plaza, which is considered one of the city's bigger shopping malls.
It’s located just along Ngo Quyen Street, not far from the Han River. We thought it’d be a good place to cool down and grab a drink while exploring the local city vibe.
The mall itself is quite modern and clean, with well-known retail brands, a CGV cinema, an ice-skating rink, and a pretty decent food court.
But surprisingly, for a Sunday evening, it was really quiet. Like… eerily quiet. We noticed this pattern with the other malls we visited during our stay—Lotte Mart and GO! Da Nang—both bigger, well-equipped, yet with minimal footfall.
We later found out that while Vietnam technically has over 180 malls and retail centers, many of those include small local centers and not full-scale malls like you’d expect in cities like Singapore, Bangkok or KL.
In Da Nang especially, locals tend to stick to traditional markets and local shops where prices are better, and the interaction is more personal.
Also, many tourists here are more into beach vibes, nature, or cultural tours than shopping sprees.
That said, Vincom Plaza is still a good stop if you want to relax in aircon comfort, maybe sip a coffee or just walk around a bit.
Heads-up though: When you're leaving the mall, especially in the evening, be careful of touting Grab or private-hire drivers lurking around the exits.
They tend to quote higher rates if you don't already have a ride booked. My tip? Always pre-book your ride before heading to the pick-up spot.
If you want to save even more, consider using InDrive—which lets you negotiate fares—or a local app called Vinasun (VINH), which works similarly to a metered taxi but through an app. It’s safer, cheaper, and avoids unnecessary haggling.
All in all, Vincom Plaza won’t blow your mind with shopping options, but it’s a solid place to chill—just manage expectations and be savvy...
