After many days of just Vietnamese cuisine, I had an urge for something different, so I cancelled my original plan for banh Xeo and stepped into Tanishq. The servers, a mix of Vietnamese and South Asian, were quick to approach and get me seated, handing me a very large folio menu--I always fear seeing such a large menu in any restaurant. There were hundreds of options, but what I was hoping for was a dosa, and they had several on offer... my go-to is a Mysore masala dosa, which in every other place I've had them in, is a large paper-style rolled/folded dosa with spicy filling, usually potato-based, and some chutneys/sauces to dip the pieces in. Imagine my surprise to find: a) It does not come as a large roll; and b) there is no potato filling, but a diced-red sweet pepper-based filling instead. Even in the pictures in the menu, this is what their dosas appear to be, and nowhere in the menu's description of this dosa does it say that the pieces are precut into smaller "rolls". To me, a large part of my enjoyment in eating dosa is in tearing it into pieces myself. As for the filling that was not the issue, I quite enjoyed this variation. Expressing shock, the server was very accommodating and took it back. A few minutes later, a fresh and extremely hot new dosa appeared, exactly as I had hoped for, and it was perfect--crisp, spicy, and delicious. I'm not going to take marks off for the menu, since they willingly went out of their way to produce the dosa I was asking for, but maybe it's my fault for being used to a different style?? Either way, the dosa was excellent and I finished...
