10 stars, not just 5 is what I would give to Mon Ami Cafe. The quality and beauty of the drinks and food is rivaled only by the warmth of the host.
Regarding the drinks, we ordered a matcha latte and an egg coffee. My girlfriend is extremely particular about her matcha, going to great lengths to order quality matcha to make it herself at home as well as to only drink high quality (e.g., ceremonial matcha) from cafes. We were EXTREMELY pleased by the quality of the matcha latte we got from Mon Ami cafe. The quality of the matcha was truly top notch, and I at least speak for myself when I say it was probably the best matcha latte I've had at a cafe and that the flavor was totally perfect.
Regarding the egg coffee, it was my first time ever having it. The host/owner of the cafe was very helpful in this regarding, asking about my preferred flavor profile to adjust the drink to my taste, helping to explain to me a brief history of the drink, as well as providing me with a very gentle suggestion of how to try it. I would also give the egg coffee a 10/10. The flavor of the egg and cream was superb, balancing the sweetness of the caramel and the delicate savoriness of the egg yolk. The coffee itself was also of great quality, giving a punchiness that you'd expect that was mellowed out just enough once you had mixed in the egg cream.
Besides the taste of both the drinks, they were both prepared individually and the process of making them was quite artistic to watch and mesmerizing. Almost like watching a skilled bartender at a high end cocktail bar make your drink, except instead of cocktails it was coffee and matcha.
In addition to the drinks, the owner/host also suggest us to have a strawberry croissant. The quality of this was also superb. I was taken aback by the flakiness of the croissant. I am not usually one to have croissants, but I could instantly recognize that the pastry we were given was of very high quality. On our croissant we had jam, strawberries, whipped cream, and chocolate. The strawberry was sweet, and the jam provided a nice contrast in texture and different kind of flavor which, together with the pastry, really made for a wonderful dish. This was of course also complimented by truly beautiful plating.
Finally, possibly the most incredible part of this cafe was the host/owner himself. Truly, from the moment we walked through the door, we were treated with a level of kindness and warmth that I have never before experienced, even at some very fancy establishments. While enjoying our beverages, we enjoyed an incredible conversation with the owner as he made our drinks, and it felt like we were being treated as family, served food and drinks by someone who is almost like an older brother. The conversation was so fantastic, I really found myself sad to leave when all was said in done.
I could truly have never anticipated the level of quality of the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere that I encountered at Mon Ami cafe. I am typically the type of person to try to keep gems like this a secret, but I would be doing a disservice to the cafe and the owner whose hard work and devotion to his craft and his customers I respect so much.

Once upon a time, a boy walked in a cafe during a sultry summer break. "Phew, I was about to turn into a roasted turkey!", the boy wearily took a seat inside the cool and quiet place, not expecting much from it. "I'd like to order a LA style coffee.", he said to the man at the counter after scanning through the menu. Unbeknownst to him, that man was also the owner of the place. After only 5 minutes, the owner fetched the boy a glass of black coffee with a small container of condensed milk next to it. "I separated the milk with the coffee because some customers prefer black coffee, some don't", the owner explained with a tender smile. Taken aback by the hospitality and conscientiousness of the owner, the boy took a sip in quiet. "This is some nice coffee." the boy thought. Then he took another sip. Then another sip. Then he poured the condensed milk into his glass and savoured the rest slowly, leisurely. "You look young. You're still a student, aren't you?", the owner struck up a conflab with a pleasantry. "I'm a student", the boy replied. After that, they had a heart-to-heart conversation, and the boy was thoroughly content.
In case you haven't guessed it, I'm the boy in the story. I must say the ambience of the cafe and the style of the owner definitely set this petite store apart from other local coffee shops.

Read moreSecond time to Ho Chi Min City Vietnam and fortunate enough to find this culinary gem in the heart of the city in a convenient location.
I stopped by yesterday (January 16th, 2024) and because the coffee, tea and were so delicious, I decided to come again the following day. On day one I had the French Press coffee with condensed sweet milk. The Vietnamese coffee was perfect by itself, but I found the condensed sweet milk added additional depth and flavor to the coffee.
Today around lunchtime, I had the croissant ham and cheese which consisted of a crispy, flakey croissant which was buttery and melted in your mouth. I would highly recommend this. I also had the soursop tea which was a generous portion and the green thai tea.
