Erawan Shrine, in Bangkok, is often called Four-Faced Buddha Shrine. It was built in 1956, under an astrologer’s advice, as part of d Erawan Hotel to offset the bad influence or to eliminate the bad karma believed to cause hotel construction mishaps and labor-injury accidents. After the Brahma statue was designed, built and enshrined in Erawan Shrine in November 1956, in general, the Hotel construction was proceeded without accidents or delay. Because of its spirit or mercy or magic power, the same statue, made of metal or other material was also casted and erected in a few other major construction or hotel sites in Thailand. Erawan Shrine is also called Thao Maha Phrom Shrine, which is actually a Hindu shrine which worships Phra Phrom, a Hindu God of Creation. But in Thai Buddhist theology, Phra Phrom is known as Lord Brahma who is full of kindness, mercy, sympathy and impartiality and is God of these 4 Virtues, and these four virtues are represented by his four faces, each delivering peaceful grace and serene virtue to the worshippers. Worshippers, especially Chinese worshippers from Hong Kong and Taiwan, believe that the four-faced god is extremely efficacious. If their wishes do come true after praying, most believers will come back to fulfill their wishes. That is why there is always no shortage of the required offerings around the Shrine’s altar. Some believers do perform singing, dancing and music themselves or hire dancers to accompany their prayers. In Erawan Shrine, the Administration Desk does offer traditional Thai-style dance troupe to the worshippers in listed price, ranging from $ 300B for 2 dancers and $750B for 8 dancers’ performance [Feb 2024 listing price], although it is called as donation or contribution to the Shrine. For worshippers who prefer to pray more sincere or seriously with the dance troupe performance members, they generally would make donation to the Shrine, via the administration desk, and then wait in line for their praying time. When their praying time does come, they generally would knell in front of the 4-faced Goddess and pray when dancers perform their dance behind the worship-prayer. The shrine is located near the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, Bangkok, and it can be easily accessed by BTS Skytrain [station name- Chit Lom], which has clear road sign for the Shrine. Shrine does NOT allow incense and candles for worship practice from March 2020 due to health and environmental concerns. However, worshippers can buy flowers, wood elephant statues of various sizes for worship. Believers can also buy small birds for mercy release to the sky. While there are no strict rules at the shrine, it is advisable to wear clothing that cover shoulders and knees. Shrine is free for entrance and photo is allowed. Hinduism in Thailand seems to be affected by Thai culture and gradually adopts certain worship practices, religious and Architectual decoration of Thai Buddhism. Is this Thailandization for Hinduism in Thailand? Visitors may know it if they visit a few Buddhist and Hinduist temples in Bangkok.

This place is a famous spiritual tourist destination of the country's temples. San Phra Phrom Buddha, also known as the tetrahedron Buddha. The Buddha statue depicts the image of one of the three important Trimurti gods in Hindu culture - Brahma is the creator of the Vedas and the creator of the people, the god of prosperity. good luck and peace. Legend has it that, Brahma was born from a lotus on the water with a crane as a mount, the father of the gods, the creator of ancient mankind and the husband of the Hindu goddess Saraswati. The original statue was cast in metal and kept in the National Museum of Thailand and the statue that visitors often see at the temple is made of plaster mixed with a mixture of gold, copper and other metals. The statue depicts the image of a god with 4 faces with full eyes, nose, mouth and 8 arms and hands with extremely sacred worship meanings. The 4 faces of the statue face 4 east, southwest, north and when we come to offer flowers to worship them, we should worship in a clockwise direction from the front face. The four faces of the statue represent the four meanings of Compassion - Compassion - Joy - Discharge, which when worshiping at each statue, we can pray most effectively. 1)The front side is to bless the business, do business smoothly. 2)The left side is a blessing for love 3)The right side is a blessing for health 4)The back side is the ego, eliminating all the bad things about yourself to be more loved by everyone

The Erawan Shrine, it’s real name is Thao Maha Phrom or 'shrine of Lord Maha Brahma'. A rather famous shrine very often also referred to as the ‘Four Face Buddha’ which is the statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of Brahma, the Hindu god of creation. It also can refer to Mahabrahma, the ruler of the Brahma in Buddhist terms. The deity is popularly worshipped outside of a Hinduism, kind of Thai version and more like a representation of guardian spirits. The statue has 4 faces and 8 arms holding various items each with its own meaning: - A book representing knowledge - Beads symbolizing control of karma - A spear representing willpower - A flower vase symbolizes scared water - A conch shell offering wealth - The flying wheel offers clearing of disasters, bad times and evil - The ‘cinta mani’ an inscribed relic for Buddhas almighty power - The hand at the chest stands for compassion. The Shrine was built in 1956 as part of the Erawan Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The foundation stone was mistakenly laid at the wrong date and during construction of the hotel it encountered multiple problems like injuries, loss of construction material, delays and cost issues etc. Furthermore, the intersection was once used to put criminals on public display. An astrologer therefore advised to build the shrine to counter the bad karma. The hotel's construction thereafter proceeded without further incident.

If you come to this shrine, PLEASE do not purchase pigeons from the stalls outside the shrine. Animal abuse, stalls outside the shrine sell caged pigeons which were originally wild. The pigeons were caught inhumanely (via bird traps/modified mouse traps) most pigeons were harmed in the process of captured them. The pigeons are in inhumane cages, when pigeons are released (when they are purchased and the purchaser releases the pigeons) the pigeons are usually caught again. Great shrine but horrible scenery as people have stalls which they capture wild and free roaming pigeons then place the pigeons in a inhumane, tiny, and crowded cage. The pigeons are placed in a very tiny cage, the pigeons have little space to move and they cant do anything other than to wait for a person to purchase them so they can be free. The pigeon's cages have no food, I doubt they even feed the pigeons. These stalls should be illegal. they are not in official land which is designated for stores selling products. Selling animals like this should be illegal and is inhumane, Still, I do not have a single idea why a person would inhumanely capture a pigeon and sell them right outside a shrine. It is incredibly disrespectful to the wildlife and teaches the rest of the animals who watched the pigeons be captured and sold to never trust people.
