I had a truly wonderful stay at Grand Hyatt Erawan – thank you to the entire team for such a great experience! To give some context, I was in Bangkok for a medical trip and was mainly looking for a hotel that was convenient in terms of location, with easy access to food and shops. Grand Hyatt Erawan delivered on all fronts. It’s perfectly located, and everything I needed was within reach.Because of its central location, the hotel is bustling and lively – almost every room seemed occupied during my stay. While it may not be the quiet, secluded kind of 5-star hotel some might prefer, I personally loved the energy. The constant flow of guests and families made me feel safe and never alone, even when walking through the corridors late at night. The breakfast buffet was a highlight – delicious and thoughtfully curated. I really appreciated that the chefs came out to greet guests and ask for feedback. It made the whole experience feel warm and communal, like everyone belonged there.Service was also impeccable. The staff were responsive and attentive, and housekeeping was fast and efficient. I also loved that the "Privacy Please" feature was connected to the front desk – the moment I deactivated it, my laundry was delivered right away. Little touches like this made a big difference.Although I didn’t get to try the spa, pool, or gym myself, my partner did and raved about it every morning. If I had to mention one downside, it would be the traffic – which is expected given the central location. Just make sure to plan your travel time, especially during peak hours. All in all, I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. I’ll definitely be back for my next visit. Read moreThere is much to recommend ....I stayed 5 days/4 nights at the hotel and didn't leave it much except to wander to Central World, hypermart Big C and Maneeya Tower which connected to the hotel via the Sky Bridge through the new Erawan Bangkok mall which has direct access to the hotel at the basement behind the hotel bar. The connectivity is superb and this hotel's perfect central location cannot be beaten. Since I didnt leave the hotel much, having decided to do an extended spa & exercise holiday (since there are free yoga and Pilates & other classes offered to hotel guests) at the wonderful I.sawan Residential Spa & Club (see last 2 photos). The pretty Ping at the Spa reception charmed with her friendly chit chat in fluent English and accommodating personality; whilst my therapist for all 3 days of spa treatment was very skilled and fairly conversant in English (so I was able to communicate my problem spots) - deftly massaged away my laptop syndrome i.e. chronic neck, arm & shoulder pain. I dined at the Gaston bistro thrice (see first 4 photos), the French eatery in the basement (Lower Lobby) of the hotel, which should be renamed to a grander one as it actually serves some high end restaurant standard dishes.Gaston was welcoming! The new bartender (whose name I didnt catch, but he is a cool guy with a half sleeve tattoo just 2 months into the job) and jolly server Yo Yo (who joined in April) were examples of how a genuine smile and friendly banter will make a customer return. Also I must mention the larger than life, gregarious and hospitable Erawan Executive Chef David Senia who even came by one night to say Hello to the diners at Gaston. Food-wise, the steak tartare, squid stuffed with pork, crêpe Suzette, house special dessert Baba with stewed prunes & chantilly cream and soaked in a generous amount of Armagnac (it was practically a mini cocktail), Lobster Americane (or Homard à l'Armoricaine for the purists), Bone Marrow and Soupe De Poisson were exceptional. The outlier was the scallops which were served barely warm, under seasoned and just plain small though they were plated well. My husband was thrilled that the increasingly rare and hard to source Chatreuse was on the digestif list. At 400++ Baht a pop, it was a belly warming (and tipsy) end to an excellent meal. Kudos to the kitchen team.I stayed in a King Room on the 14th floor with a nice view of entral World and the pool. The carpet is old from days gone by and not very well vacuumed. Found 2 small pieces of debris in corner/next to the bed when we checked-in and the shower stall floor tiles really need a good scrubbing near the corners. The bed's mattress was depressed on the sides, the centre being markedly firmer. To be fair, when I stayed on the Executive floor in January this year, there weren't these issues except for the same faded carpet. All in, this is a classic hotel with elegant interiors which is a...
Read moreThe Good: Location obviously great, convenient to malls and BTS train system. Booked 3 Rooms - 2 standard and the Grand Executive Suite for 7 people on a family vacation. Mr. Boonchai at reservations was great, extremely helpful, got us upgraded to club rooms/access with free breakfast and made sure the rooms were all on the same floor as we had requested. Breakfast at the hotel was good quality, good variety, perhaps a little slow on service in terms of re-filling thing that ran out but no major complaints. Rooms were of a good size, Beds were extremely comfortable, nice spacious bathroom. Was my mom's birthday on the last night of our trip and the hotel arranged a cake for her upon my request which was great because it was a very last minute request from me.
The Bad: Money went missing from inside the safe in the Suite. On day 2 of the trip we realised $200 were missing, which even though was a bit confusing we chalked up to perhaps there was a chance we had mis-counted. But on day 3 another $400 went missing from a separate envelope inside the in-room safe. We brought the matter to the attention of the manager on duty whom said it was impossible, which was disheartening to hear, and who said they would investigate. I wasn't happy with her response so brought it to the attention of the General Manager (Mr. Demptos) who was very kind and cooperative. They conducted an internal investigation and found only 2 people has accessed the room, room service and house keeping. Unfortunately I think his hands were tied by overall hotel policies where even if they did find the culprit they would never have admitted it. We asked them to cross reference if they could the safe open/close times with the people coming and going from our room, which I thought was a reasonable and logical step in conducting an investigation, which he said he could not do unless we went ahead and filed a police report. If the sum or money was larger, and I had more time perhaps this would have been an avenue worth pursuing but we chose not to further ruin our vacation by wasting half a day at the police station filling reports considering we only had 2 days left in the city.
Overall the incident left a sour taste in an otherwise issue free hotel stay. I've visited Bangkok over a dozen times and never had anything like this happen before. I doubt I would stay at the hotel again after the incident, especially given that while the hotel said they took the matter seriously, I feel they could have investigated it further and they did not offer us any kind of compensation. Took a chance staying here whereas I normally stay at the Intercontinental which is across the street because of the great deal, but it ended up costing me more than I...
