Recently, I went on a trip to Bangkok with my friend and stayed at this Grande Centre Point Hotel. I had originally expected a comfortable five-star hotel experience, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment.
We booked a twin room for three consecutive nights a week in advance. We arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok at noon on Thursday and reached the hotel on time at 2 pm to check in. When we specifically asked the front desk for a quiet room, we were told that there was only one room left on the 35th floor and one on the 10th floor. Considering that the higher floor would have a better view and be quieter, we chose the room on the 35th floor. It was only then that the front desk said the room was still being cleaned and we would need to wait for about an hour. We asked where we could wait, and the front desk said we could rest in the lobby or the pool area. So, after about half an hour, the front desk contacted us and said we could check in.
However, when we arrived at the room and opened the door, we were greeted by a pungent smell of paint. The room was also the last one at the end of the corridor. We immediately called the front desk to explain the situation and suggested that someone be sent to check if the smell was normal. But after waiting for about ten minutes, no one came. Then the front desk called us three more times, just asking what the problem was and saying that they were arranging for someone to come and check, but in the end, no one came to inspect the room or offered any solution.
Meanwhile, after checking other open rooms on the 35th floor, we found that many of them also had a pungent smell. There were also carts loaded with paint buckets and maintenance tools in the corridor, and workers were replacing the grilles of the air conditioning vents. That's when we realized that the floor was under construction. We firmly demanded a room change. After more than half an hour of communication and waiting, it was already past 4 pm when we were finally moved to a room on the 23rd floor, which was also the last room at the end of the corridor. The view outside the window directly faced a building under construction, and no staff member helped us with our luggage during the whole process. Our itinerary for that afternoon was completely disrupted.
That night, we sent an email to the hotel group to file a complaint. The next day, we received a reply from the hotel manager. Besides an apology, the only compensation offered was a late check-out until 3 pm. Also, it seemed as if we were under special surveillance. As soon as we entered the room, we received a call from the front desk saying that we could change the room again and they would provide a free airport transfer service. However, the hotel didn't explain the reason for the pungent smell on the 35th floor or its subsequent arrangements at all.
This stay was really disappointing and didn't meet the service standards that a five-star hotel should have at all. I hope my experience can serve as a reminder to other consumers, so that they won't spend money and still be...
Read moreStayed here for 4 nights. Total 2 pax. Paid around a total of $300 SGD. It's the best hotel I've stayed so far in Bangkok and would definitely make it my go to hotel whenever I visit Bangkok from now on. Other hotels I've stayed before are Glow Pratunam, Berkeley Hotel Pratunam and Baiyoke Sky. This hotel beats the rest in everything.
It's located near 3 train stations namely Ratchadamri, Chit Lom and Siam with the nearest being Ratchadamri (5mins walk) and the furthest being Siam (10 to 15 mins walk). We went to the hotel via Chit Lom on the first day, which was a mistake, as we thought there may be some direct link/walkway from Chit Lom. However, there isn't any so we ended up detouring for quite abit. It's also walkable to centralwOrld and Big C. Walkable to Platinum Fashion Mall and the whole bunch of massage parlor opposite too. Definitely not as close as Glow is to Platinum Fashion Mall but I guess we value proximity to train station instead. Ratchadamri is good too as it's 1 station away from Sala Daeng where you can exchange to MRT and 1 station away from Siam where to can change BTS line to go places like Mo Chit (Chatuchak).
Hotel room is big and spacious. We were abit confused when booking this hotel as pictures seems to show that there's washing machine and a kitchen + dining area even for the smallest type of room. We were abit skeptical but weren't disappointed when we entered the room as it's really what's shown on pictures. There's even a washing machine so you can wash your clothes if you want. The whole hotel room is so big there's dining area, kitchen, bed area, indoor balcony, walk-in wardrobe, toilet with separate bathtub and shower area. I guess the only downside is the blinds are not blackout curtains so it gets really bright when the sun is up. There's also technically only power outlets on one side of the bed as I had to remove the light on the other side to use the power outlet. But other than that it's really spacious. I love the room. It's probably one of the best hotel rooms I've stayed. Room is clean too. Not to the state where it's sparkling clean but it's good enough for me. Shower head pressure is good too. But water heater might be abit cranky at times but overall it's working most of the time. Toilet seats are those Japanese type where you can heat it up.
Not much interaction with hotel stuff service though. I would say they are nice but not to the extend where they'll greet you and be available everywhere when you need them. It's good enough for average day to day use when you need them.
Only used their swimming pool. Didn't use other facilities. But they seems to have a gym, kids playroom and a room with foosball. Swimming pool is good. With like 2 mini jacuzzi beside it. Not too small so you won't be feeling too cramped. There's a total of 50 levels I think. We stayed on the 27th floor.
Great place to stay. Would...

While I understand there is construction, the noise is overwhelming. The pool is not clean, I can see dust particles the two times i have swam in it, and the chlorine is strong it makes my body itch and smells strong too. Getting kicked out of the pool due to raining was not nice. You can certainly inform us about it being a safety problem and inform us in a polite way to come out, not by shouting get out. Room service everyday at 5pm is very inconvienient (floor 42). I leave early morning and come at the evening to hear the bell ringing for room service, and have to stop everything for 30 mins to complete their cleaning. The cleaning of the room is not thorough, i can see dust in the cabinets so I did not place my clothes in. The vents of the toilet doors are very very dusty, and I can see some mold in parts of the sink which is i believe isnt being worked on as part of the room service. I suggest the hotel to do deep cleaning at least once a month. Floor 42 smells like cigars, weed, and armpit. I dont understand the smell. Similarily every once in a while the elevator smells extremely bad. I have never seen the concierge counter manned by anyone for the last 5 days. I got 3 deliveries, 2 which i personally found and took, and one which I had to wait 5 mins and then had to wave at the staff to provide it. This also is a challenge, as the service is advertised, but not readily available. The service is very lacking, usual hotels would greet customers upon entering/exiting, open the doors, but havent seen this here even though its a 5 star hotel. In fact, while checking in I didnt even hear a hello, just a "can I have your booking number". My check-in bag did not reach my room until some follow-up from my end and a wait of 20 minutes, which is very strange. The hotel is popular for a certain ethnicity which is very problematic and vulgar towards strangers. Myself, understanding the language, it is quite challenging to engage in any activity within this premises (pool, elevator, gym, dining area) without hearing very rude remarks which I understand. This has happened almost 3 times during my stay. While the hotel is not responsible for these type of customers and welcomes everybody, it is just not an attractive environment to be in. Transport by vehicles is very difficult. For grab, the wait is ~15 to 20 minutes in peak hours. Hence, need to walk a reasonable distance beyond the traffic to get a quick transport. Toktoks/taxis are also available after a certain distance.
In short, I do not recommend this hotel to anyone.
On the other side a few points which are good: The lobby smells good. The drinks and snacks in the room are free. Smart...
